Wow. I am not going there again!

Posted by partlycloudy on February 1, 2005, at 13:47:27

Psych Central's Dr John has a rather patronizing welcome for Babblers joining his site. I can't say that I feel "micro-managed" here, yet that's exactly what he states about PsychoBabble.

I know - who cares what other sites I visit? I was trying to pinpoint where my loyalty to this (PB) darn place originates from, and Dr John's message made it very clear that rather than showing Dr Bob a professional courtesy and civility, by welcoming those who are exploring other places to gather and share information about mental health, he conducts a site where Bob bashing is not only tolerated, but endorsed.

pc, I can't find this welcome! Have been all over the site. You have really piqued my interest. Where is it?

The Internet Traveler's board - welcome to Babblers or something like that. I didn't notice it until a few minutes ago.
Actually, I'm so steamed about it, I can't even go back there and point you to it.

I had a look at the sight and saw the "welcome". An attempt to make it seem like the grass is greener perhaps? Anyway, I haven't been at Babble very long, but I find there is an energy here that no amount of dancing smiley faces can replace!

It doesn't appear now. I suspect it may have been rescinded?

What doesn't appear now? The alleged offending welcome? I certainly don't see it there. I see nothing that puts down PB at all. Am I stupid once again? I feel safe there and I've never seen anybody other than PBers say anything negative about PB. What am I missing, other than a functioning brain?

A confused and tired AG

Go to psych central
Go to Support Forums
Go to Internet Traveller's Lounge

Dr. Grohl's message is in there somewhere.

For the next time Dr. Bob brings up the idea of being able to edit your own posts. :)

I can just imagine the imagine the resulting chaos. Outrage and hurt feelings followed by a total lack of problem showing up when you try to figure out what's going on.

I think Doc John may have deleted it. I PM'd him to ask, but no response as of yet. Messages there can be edited or deleted by the poster for up to one hour after posting. And mods can delete any post, but I think they leave some kind of trace.

You're not hallucinating, PC. Unless Tofuemmy and I are too. And she mentioned something in an email about a couple positive responses to it as well, although I never saw those and don't know if they were posted or PM'd.

I admit when I read it, it didn't affect me one way or another, though. I guess cause I've read some of Dr. John's stuff about his forum and his views on internet research such as Dr. Bob does. I wasn't surprised by it, and I guess I just feel a bit indifferent. (maybe it's the nardil) :o

Thanks for your explanation. I post at both sites. I've actually never read his welcome before as you'll see there is no response from me. It's certainly not offensive now IMHO.

Maybe he had so many people going over there complaining on dr bob and blocks he put it up I mean there ARE psych patients running to his site saying a LOT about what they felt was an injustice done on to them by Dr Bob in that case I can understand ..If I had say 20 people come to me and say man I feel bad cause of being blocked for saying a word like insensitive..I would perhaps do something like he MAY have done...He may be able to edit but I still feel he MAY not have written it..hackers can be good..I feel indiffernt too..I have read the site and some posts but do not belong to it.

You had to be there

- and you had to have seen the Bob Bashing as I have before at that site in order to have had the response I did.
Oh well, I can handle being the only one offended. it *was* highly unprofessional, snide, and a final put-off for me. Animation and jumping icons aside, it's no place for me if the "doctor" who runs the place thinks it's appropriate to post such a thing.

I better bow out of this thread before I get myself in trouble here.

PC,
Your reaction to it is perfectly valid. I remember the Bob-bashing, and probably particpated in my own way at the time. And given that, I can certainly see how that post might appear. I don't disagree with you at all. And given that it is gone now, perhaps he thought it over and decided it might be a bit rude, too?

I hope you are not feeling as if your feelings aren't being supported and that's why you are "bowing out"? Unless your bowing out is a self-protective move, and then I understand.

I empathize.

I gotta admit there's something to be said for an administrator who stands behind what he says, for better or worse. Even if it's for worse.

Posts disappearing or changing would be a bit crazy making for me.

Even if an administrator thinks better of what he says, he should be willing to leave the original up and apologize for it. That's the mature and admirable thing to do.
