Hola all...
So I just found out that I'm pregnant (it's a good thing, yeah)
I'm on 200mg of Lamictal... not a bad thing...
BUT I cannot find a single doc that will give me direction or advice as to whether I need to adjust my dose or if it's even safe. Truth is, not enough studies have been done.
So I'm all alone with that, wondering if Junior will have three arms or something (I'm keeping it funny, otherwise, I'll go nuts)
I came out of the worst Mania I ever had in December... so going off Lamictal would probably be very bad for me, which means it would be bad for the baby too... and I DO NOT want post pardum depression to be any worse than it already will be (I'm guessing).
I've done online searches- they tell me all different things, ranging from "you are fine, don't worry" to "it's probably better to be off everything" to "no one really knows, so you should register with the Lamictal site and be the guinea pig"
I have been the guinea pig for years- does anyone else think it's sad that babies have to be the guinea pigs too?
Ahhh.... someone pray for me, or something...

Congratulations! That's wonderful news. I'm very happy for you.
I do understand your concerns, though. A lot of the meds I am on or were on were/are Pregnancy Category C, which means they don't know all that much, but it could be a problem. I looked up Lamictal, and it definitely says do NOT breastfeed. But for pregnancy, it's C.
Larry Hoover posted some good stuff about meds and pregnancy awhile back. You might want to search the archives. When I get home, I'll see if I saved it. I think I did.
Take care of yourself and the wee one!

If Chemist weren't blocked, you could check in with him, but yeah, go over to Babble and ask Larry what he's discovered while gg checks out if she saved that stuff...
Best to you and your bun !

I am currently in the process of trying to get pregnant, and I'm on Lamictal as well. I spoke with pdoc about this and she said at the moment there really isn't enough data on the affects. I have an appointment in two weeks to discuss this with her in more detail, but I think the decision to come off will be based on how I'm feeling. Which has been pretty good for a while, so I think I'm going to vote for coming off.
I also spoke to my fertility doc about this and she has the same opionion. I'm on 100mg as well, and it really isn't a lot.Congratulations

Hi there,
See, my issue is that in December I had the worst mania I have ever had... I don't feel strong enough to be off of it- as it is, I have come down off of Paxil and feel it everyday.
God, I have never worried so much...

Thanks GG,
I did get off of my Paxil... that had more to do with my last mania and it's intensity... but it's so good to know that it's a lot better for the baby. Now I need to figure out the Lamictal issue. I'm only 3 weeks pregnant- so hopefully I can get this figured out with good timing.
Thank you for helping me so much- this is such a scary and lonely time for me... I feel like the only pregnant woman on Lamictal. And I know I'm not!!
You are the best, GG.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. What month are you in? I can't give you any answers about safety of Lamictal while pregnant. It probably is better to be off of it but I certainly understand you hesitancy in doing so. Don't you just love when these drug companies push their pills at us and they don't even know what they'll do? Makes you kina feel like a lab rat doesn't it. Anyway, I sincerely hope that you have a good pregnancy and everything is fine with your little bundle inside. Maybe you could try to focus on your joyous event instead of worrying so much, yes I know, easier said than done. Of course, I do think you should try to get as much info as possible. Good luck with everything. Sending prayers your way sweetie. :)

Thank you AG- your post mean sa lot to me :)
I'm not even in the first month, which is weird, because I'm 4 weeks... but they don't count the month until you are 8 weeks... meaning that you are preggers for 10 months- weird, huh?
I found a great place in Boston that specializes in Bipolar Pregnancy and a friend is paying (which I couldn't do myself). I'm so blessed with friends :)
Now if I can jsut stop vomitting, I'll feel so good...
