I LOVE all the smilies there. I'm posting over there. Several people from here over there. I love that site. Still coming here too.

I went to have a look...
Managed to join up...
Managed to get my head around which posts are new...
Managed to go from being horrified with the jumping smileys to finding them mildly amusing...
(I retract my earlier suggestion of smileys at babble even though everybody just ignored me anyway)...
I posted some hello's...
And a few other bits...
But it is very different from Babble...
I like it here...
But the more time I spend there the more I see that I could come to like it there too...
But I still like it here...
Maybe cause I came here first...
Who knows...
Fact is there are only so many hours in the day...
And there aren't enough hours in the day to join up to 'em all...
Besides which, there isn't an admin board over there...
I like admin...
It hurts
but it helps

for me the difference also has to do with content. i get a lot more out of this site than psychcentral, and the only posters there whose input i find valuable are the people i know from here.
it's a matter of being where i'm comfortable. for me this is it. i have had threads go awry there and that makes me less likely to post. the animation and coloured smileys detract from what i read there. and the ads at the bottom are annoying. i like the stripped down-ness of babble.

Depends what you mean by wall...

You aren't allowed to discuss politics
You aren't allowed to discuss religion
There isn't a place to discuss issues arising from admin decisions (shhh there aren't any 'admin decisions' over there)

If they don't like what you say they are willing to make changes to it or delete it and IT STILL HAS YOUR NAME ON IT like you have to own it after changes have been made to it by other people. (Admittedly it will say last edited by...) - But why should someone else be allowed to edit your post? I would rather be faced with consequences and have the whole things stand.

Besides, the emoticons are starting to make me nervous...

Now I have been playing way too much sim city I admit... But I see it as a zoning restriction rather than a wall. Babble stays as it was (zoned high density - it can get as big as it likes) while new space is being zoned low density (there is a limit to how many places are available).

I don't understand what is wrong Dinah. I am really really trying to. But I don't understand. Why is this hurting you so much?

I know you probably just want me to bug off. But you are welcome to babble mail me, okay?

I know, and I am genuinely sorry.

I don't think it would be in anyone's best interests for me to discuss it further at all.

I'm going to step away from the computer while I regain some much needed indifference.

Oh Dinah you don't have to be sorry. You are the one who is feeling really horrible about it all, right? I am really so very sorry that you are upset about this.

> I don't think it would be in anyone's best interests for me to discuss it further at all.

I disagree. I want to understand. I don't want you to have to lower your expectations. I don't want you to think badly of me either. I am trying to be a peacekeeper... You have done that for me before.

> I'm going to step away from the computer while I regain some much needed indifference.

Breaks are good. But I don't want babble to lose you ok?

Maybe agreeing to disagree would be best here? Just a thought. Sometimes people don't and cannot understand no matter how one puts how they feel. I saw Dinah's posts on Admin and on here and she doesn't like the idea...you... Alex seem to be so so to ok with it. I am with Dinah on this one. That may be all I like what she has to say...I hope nobody silences her. Dinah you have no reason to be sorry you believe what you believe and feel what you feel and have clearly stated why on here and in Admin. Both of you can post and never agree and never understand ...that is O.K

In my opinion (for what that's worth these days) a wall with no windows isn't too bad. It's a wall with windows, knowing someone is on the outside looking in that is bad.

Many of us have spent way, way too much time being on the outside looking in.

I'm posting there and I like the way the site looks but it runs too slow for me and not as much fun. It is very supportive too but I need more than that. I need a place to let loose when I'm hypomanic and I don't think that site really provides that for me. I do however; like the set-up there.

But could you live with being on the inside hiding knowing there are some that would love to be where youre at but arent allowed due to the hiding ? I can't.

there seem to be nice people over there.
I saw a bunch of posters I like there....
the rules are very similar to over here.
but....
you knew that was coming....
I was so lonely roaming around....
it just didn't feel like home AuntieEm....
I missed Kansas.....
Dr. B and babble is so much more my style...
Oh gosh....
what can I say.

Dr Bob is thinking of adding some new boards. Boards that will be restricted to a certain number of posters. The thought is that Babble has become a big city and some people might feel more comfortable in a small town board.

Some people aren't happy with the idea.

There is a verrrrrrrrrrrrry loooooooooooong discussion of it over on admin.

Aw, (((((Sabrina))))) don't feel bad I think that people were just waiting for the opportunity...

You will get a nice long one one day.
If you come on here late - around 12 or 1 or 2 in the morning and manage to catch Rainbow and Fallen I am sure they will help you make the record for the longest thread that Babble has ever seen.

:-)

Of course there is something to be said for quality too... (no offence guys, it was fun).

new boards.....

> Dr Bob is thinking of adding some new boards. Boards that will be restricted to a certain number of posters.

*so will that be like being in open?
is it for control?
how many would be able to post?
would the board look different?
I like the look of this board, will it look different?
I tried to follow that post on admin....
I got lost.
so only certain people could post?

If I'm not invited to post on one of the boards....
would I look through the windows and feel left out?
will it feel like an elite country club?

or would it be that if I wanted to post but the site was full I’d have to wait till someone left then I could join?

It appears that certain threads are like private conversations already.
certain sites are inhabited by some of the same people discussing the same or similar topics (faith board).

It seems we settle into where we are comfortable.
There are certain boards I almost never visit but like to drop in occasionally.

what I didn’t like about Psy Central was the look of the boarders and the visual activity.
It seemed to be more focused on the people not the topics.
psycho babble seems to have the topic headers as the point of interest then the people who posted them.
I like how the threads are in a bunch and then the new comments are highlighted.
I hope our virtual home town won’t destroy the look and feel of the neighborhood.
You know suburbs, shopping malls (ads), gentrification....and all that.

I haven't read that thread on admin. It seems so long and I feel like an intruder who is coming into the conversation late. Maybe I'll read but not post.

I wonder if it will lead others to feel left out and unwanted. It could very well lead me to feel that way with being so fragile and feeling unloved to begin with. As Jai already said, there are threads here on social that i don't participate in because they seem to be between certain posters and I didn't get in at the start so I haven't even read them. But then again, that's just my thoughts and I haven't read that thread and I'm sure all of this has been discussed.
