I need help! I am supposed to leave for vacation tomorrow and am FREAKING THE HELL OUT over going. I am meeting up all my college girlfriends and now this hurricane is really really scaring me. I have major meetings for work the following week, so in addition to fearing my life, I also need to be at these meetings!
Does anyone live near there that has any real idea about hurricane frances and what they are saying about hitting gulf shores, AL?
My friends know what an over the top worry wart I am and don't want to let my fear keep me from having a good time and most importantly, ruining theirs.
I hope you guys can help!
Dr. Bob - please don't remove this - these are my friends I know and I need advice!

I love the gulf shores. I'm so jealous that Marsha lives there. We went this past summer and now we're going to go every year. As for the huricane well, it's suppose to go up north. you shoudln't get anything but maybe some rain. the storm is suppose to veer north and also be on the east coast so the gulf is safe. I would go and have a great time. I'm jealous. I want to go. I guess i just have to wait till next year. I'm already looking at condo's for the 4th of july week. I need to find a good deal for the condo cuz there's six of us and i don't work so we have to be carefull where we spend our money. the less on the condo means more for other stuff.

Captain,
Go to this site.
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200406_climo.html
It shows the trajectories of all recorded hurricanes with the same characteristics and path of Frances. It looks like there isn't much of a likelihood that it will be coming ashore near here - much more likely it will hit far south of here (Hispaniola) or go up the east coast.
There have been no warnings, hints about evacuations etc. on local news channels.
Also see this local internet forecasting site :

Marsha - THANK YOU!
That was SO nice! I will check out those sites! This will tell you what a true anxiety ridden freak I am - I called the Mobile NBC 15 news station and talked to the chief meterologist Dave...he is going to email me tomorrow! HOW NICe!
He said tonight is the big night to tell which way it will go. I hope it goes east, although I live in that area so that is a little scary for my family!
I am going on a college reunion girls trip - so we don't care if it rains! just want to have fun!
Thanks again - keep me posted on your weather!

Actually I live in Orange Beach. It's the town between Gulf Shores and the Florida state line. Anybody been to the Flora-Bama?

It's somewhere between way cool and a total dive.

We have a vacation home right across the highway from Flora Bama. I quit drinking about a year ago but when I did, oh yes, good times were had from what I can piece together!

isn't that the place where they sell a drink that if you can drink it all it's free. or something like that. but it's so strong that most people get too drunk to finish it. hmm, where there's a place there that does sell those. i don't know from experience though.

I haven't heard of that. I think most of the habitues there would break the bank if that were true.

Frances is not expected to head that direction. It's supposed to start tracking more north westward soon.
They found something unexpected in the high pressure system that they need to examine further. At time, the track *may* be changed more towards the west. If so, they are expecting to issue that on the 2am eastern time update.
For updates, I go to the National Hurricane center:

I wouldn't go to the gulf now. it's suppose to go out into the gulf then back inland. it looks like alabama is going to get it too. where do you live? Marsh, please try and keep in touch so we know you're okay. I don't know if you'll lose power or not. I thought of you when they told the new track it will be taking.

Well, actually it's predicted to go WNW or NW through FLA and maybe into northern ALA. Nowhere near the ALA gulf coast. But things do change quickly, so keeping an eye on the hurricane center updates is a good idea - for anyone that might be in or near the area.
Captain was worried about the coastline because that's where she is going this weekend.
This is the end of the thread.
