Productivity?

Posted by fallsfall on April 15, 2004, at 9:47:26

I don't know where this productivity came from. I have just submitted my Taxes, I'm printing out an extra copy for my husband.

I am cleaning my oven (what???). Yes, it is self-cleaning, but I haven't cleaned it in 3 years. I also got most of the grease and grime off the stove top and around the controls. I don't quite understand. But I'll take it while it's here!

I don't want to get too crazy here, though. I still have to do a simple state return today. And then I think that a couple of computer games are in order before my therapy this afternoon.

Puzzled,
Falls.

What's productivity?

I, too, get it in spurts, and not very often at all!!! I did manage to do my taxes last night. My productivity is normally spurred by hard and fast deadlines. Sigh...

Unfortunately, I don't have those kinds of deadlines regarding housework, so it doesn't get done, except once in a blue moon.

I find it comes in waves...especially if you have gotten geared up for a deadline for one thing, you use the "extra" energy to accomplish other things.

Mine is almost always related to anxiety. I have to channel what I'm feeling into "doing" something.

Maybe it's the weather. This is the first sunny day around here in a long time--is it for you? I also got tax stuff done and performed housework. I got my son to help me sweep the upstairs. Not as much of a challenge as cleaning the oven. My oven is so charred inside that I have to open the doors and windows when I bake, because the smoke detector goes off. And yes, it's self-cleaning.

I.

MINUS the puter lol...I today foxed up...hair make up nails you name it, went out to lunch, saw MY T, went shopping at the mall, grocery shopped, exercised, went to dinner with my husband, to another mall with him, to yet another grocery store I forgot something he needed, I cleaned my house, put the GOODS from the store away,,,,tended the pets, mowed the back lawn..made a few phone calls.. hit the bank..postal office and...this was for me a slow lazy day..And no I am not manic nor hypomanic I try to stay as busy as possible..its healthy.

The oven was easier than I thought.

Just choose a cool day, because it heats up the kitchen. I took an old sponge and all the "things" on the bottom made a nice pile, which I brushed into a paper towel and threw away. I took the racks out and threw the handle and set the dial. That's really all there is. But THEN, I started getting the grease off around the knobs, and I took out the pans under the burners, and I even propped up the top and wiped up the crud under the burners. I knew I was going to burn out at some point (did I say a pun??), so I made sure that I only started things I knew I could finish.

It made the house smell awful. But now, I just have a little white powder to be washed out of my oven, and I have to put the burners back in.

Ilene - Try it! It's amazing! But do open the windows (and maybe have a fan blowing out...)

Maybe it is amazing, but right now I can think of some more interesting, albeit less important, things to do. You may be in the mood where you think nothing could be more important or interesting than cleaning your oven. It will pass, I guarantee it.

FF,

WOW! Maybe it's spring?

Whatever it is, enjoy it. And if you have any extra, could you bottle some and send it to me? I could use some productivity energy.

I did it. After terrifying the cats with the smoke detector while broiling chicken, I set the oven to "clean" at about midnight. Of course, I had to get up in the middle of the night to disable the smoke detector. Now the oven has gray crud inside, instead of black crud.

I'm so proud of you! I saw mention of your oven cleaning in your diary above.

Yes, you do have to wipe the inside of the oven. Did you try to wipe out the burned stuff before you set the oven to clean? I was able to remove most of the big clumps before cleaning. The grey powder should come off with a damp sponge, although I did find that the "drips" down the side of my oven are still there - just now a much lighter color. I guess it cleans better on the top and the bottom than it does on the sides.

Sorry about the middle of the night wakeup call.

I haven't had any energy spurts since then - I think Dinah was right, that it was related to anxiety about talking with my therapist. Plus work has been very busy (another Saturday afternoon of inventory - we finished Adult Non-fiction!), so it has gotten most of my energy.

Now it is your turn to inspire me to do a task!

I did not clean out the oven before I set it to clean itself. The burned-on stuff was too hard. I wiped it out afterwards. It's nice and clean now, but I haven't used it, so I don't know whether it will smoke.

A task: How about throwing away the outdated food? Or donating the clothes you never wear to charity?

I.
