im still looking for those Jersey sheets;) maybe i will get some for my b-day:)..;) you never know.
>[did i tell you i got the sheets at Wal Mart? - - they're even softer if you rinse them in Downy!]
About my increase . . . the side effects were getting to be tolerable for me before I increased, but they came back after I went up. That was a couple weeks ago, and they are just now starting to get better again. I think, for me, the increase was pretty much the same as the beginning - it was kind of like starting over for me.
Your medicine is so different from mine, though, and how our bodies react is an individual thing. Trust your instincts and what you have already experienced on Paxil, so far. You will get through it, and in the end you will feel better. We all have to be patient for the meds to build up and do their thing.
I hope your aunt is ok. I will say a prayer for her tonight.
It has been good for me to get back to work. I work with the elderly, and I love what I do; it makes me feel like my life is worthwhile:~) And my co-workers are the best; my supervisor is like a big sister to me.
Which reminds me - I need to go to bed. I have a meeting first thing in the a.m.
Nighty-night:~) [more likely "good morning" by the time you read this!]

Hi Mystic -
I'm sorry to hear your not feeling so hot. The old monthly can really bring you down, try to remember you'll feel better in a few days. I also think JLynne is right - you've been gearing up for the shower for so long, it's like this big let-down happens afterward. Are there any other projects on your horizon you can plan for? If not, just let yourself ride out this wave and know you will feel better soon. I've been 3 months on the 20 mg. and I really think it's taken this long before I can look back over the past couple of weeks and realize I've had more up times than down!!! I know what you mean about feeling outside your body, I still get like that from time to time, especially when I'm really tired and stressed.Hang in there sister & take good care of yourself! :-)

Mystic, Lexy and everyone:
I am just not sure about the whole weight gain thing. I've always been underweight, luckily - it's my genes. But then, I've never been 40 before either! I got married in July 2002, was at 128 (I'm 5'7"). Started Lex October 2003, was at about 130 - 133 (the myth is getting married makes you gain weight& it was true with me!). Went on 20 mg in Dec 2003 and am now hovering around 145 to 148. I've never weighed more than 140 in my life! It seems awfully unusual that I would gain 10+ lbs. in that short of time. So, go figure . . . is it being happily married finally (probably not, my husband was laid off, in grad school full time and still can't find a good job - we still have stresses). Is it that I'm cooking more since I have a family of 5? Maybe, but I only cook about 2 or 3 real meals a week & I'm busier than ever. I don't eat more or less junk, hardly ever eat fast food.
My conclusion after consulting with a couple of other threads on this site: SSRIs do effect metabolism and/or the "I'm full" signal, just as they are suppressing other things in our brain's chemistry. They do increase certain chemicals in your body that can cause fat cells to stick around more persistently. It has something to do with cortisol and the adrenal glands. Maybe it's thyroid related.
Sorry this was so long, but weight gain can be depressing and can make one feel tired too, so it's an important thing to watch when battling depression. Exercise and good diet aside, it is harder to take weight off when on an SSRI, I believe! But, it's not yet enough of a problem that I would trade weight loss for my sanity. My husband actually agrees with me there, surprisingly enough :-).
The main thing is, if you know it, you can guard against it - I didn't realize it could happen so didn't work as hard to combat it. Now I will - treadmill's been great!
~ Lynne
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hey Lynne do you think that the weight gain is from your meds???...do you think the more you increased the more weight you gained and the harder it is to get off??..has anyone been having any weights issues???...I feel like poop tonight not sure just really foggy this really stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Mystic

Oh, Mystic, I can relate. My concentration & memory are not as good as I would like. But I think it's cuz I'm so tired all the time from insomnia. At the beginning, it was due to the fogginess the med brought on. I think that will go away. I started taking extra B vitamin and fish oil (essential fatty acids) supplements and I think that helped my mental state!

I plan on trying to fit in a little fun & shopping! I can't believe I missed so much last week. I don't think I was able to read all the posts! It sounds like things are getting busier for you with school . . . down-hill slide toward the end of the semester. Remember to breathe, take your vitamins, drink lots of water and keep your priorities intact - this is a unique time in your life where you need to be very selfish about your time and energy in order to do your best :-)
Your posts have sounded more clear lately, it sounds like you are feeling better?!?! I'm so proud of how far you've come, especially with the school stress hanging over you!!!! You are truly a unique individual and will be a great therapist!

Hi Emily, thanks!
Yes, I was on 10mg for 10 weeks, now 20 mgs for 3 months. I would say I am just now feeling more normal BUT... I have had insomnia that is just finally starting to abate. So, it is hard to use me as an example. When you are tired, everything seems worse and I was crankier than normal!!!
I would say, though, that at the 10 week mark I really felt myself being able to give to other people again (outside my family) which meant my emotional energy reservoir was being filled up again . . . which means the Lex was really working! That was a big sign. Also, I yell at my daughter & husband for no reason less frequently - this was a big bad thing that my depression caused and I am feeling in control of those emotions again.
I would start to look for marked improvements at the 8 week mark. Keep a journal. Sometimes it is so hard to see progress! Hang in there! You are getting better!!

hi lynne! i began lex on feb 4, so i am at about 8 weeks now. i was on 10mg for 6, 15 for 2 or so, and just started 20 a few days ago. i also take .25 xanax twice a day. i am feeling a little better i believe...but every time i have an anxiety attack (which i still do although they are less severe than before...i take lex for anxiety alone, not depression) i feel like it's such a major setback that this med will never work for me.
i know ive only been on 20 for 3 days and im hoping that this will be the dose for me. i was on paxil for 8 years and it worked wonders...so i know that i am capable of responding to these meds!
do you take anything at night to sleep? my anxiety can seem unbearable if i don't sleep enough...E

Hi Em -
I hope the 20mg of Lex does the trick for you! Why did you quit the Paxil? I've heard lots of people didn't like it, but took it years ago cuz it was the only thing out there. For sleep, I took Melatonin til it stopped working, then tried Benadryl, Midol PMS, allergy meds - anything to help me sleep! Finally called p-doc after about 16 weeks total of bad sleep! He gave me Ambien but I'm so scared of getting addicted to it, I only took it for 8 nights. Then I had horrible withdrawal-like symptoms for 2 days/nights (high anxiety, NO sleep at all, jittery, weird thoughts, etc).
A week or so later, after more lack of sleep, I cut the 10mg tablet into thirds for a few nights and I still felt groggy the next day! But, I think it may have nudged me out of my bad pattern because now the 3mg Melatonin is working again. I need to cut that in half or buy the 1 mg, cuz I am again groggy during the day - til about 2pm, even when I take it as early as 8pm!
Anyway, that's my sleep story (or lack of!). I can always fall asleep. It's staying asleep that's been my problem.
Good luck with the anxiety attacks and try not to let them discourage you! If they are shorter and less severe than in the past, you are improving, right?
~ Lynne

Lynne,
Hi! Good to see you back. Remember when we were talking about the Melatonin for sleep? I had to stop taking it because I was wanting (and doing)to sleep ALL the time and I was getting very cranky. I stopped and it took a couple of days to feel better.
On another note...my dr. upped me to 15mgs and when I'm ready to 20mgs. Wish me luck...
Take Care!

Hi Gator -
Hmmm . . . I wonder if that's the effect Melatonin's having on me, like a backlash from taking it so often? It doesn't seem like I wake up til about 2 in the afternoon (even tho I'm at work and semi-functioning!). I literally could keel over on my desk and go into a deep sleep before lunch time! Although I've had insomnia, even at my most sleep-deprived I haven't felt like that. I am going to cut the 3mg in half tonight and see if that helps!I hope the 15 mg works for you, let us know how that's going! It seems like a very individual thing, whether 15 or 20 works best. I went to 20 and didn't really have many s/e's reoccur. I think it is working to it's max ability now, after 3 months on 20.
Good luck :-)

Mystic, that sounds like me right before I increased to 15mg. The increase helped me . . . now I'm just waiting for the s/e's to abate some more before I go to 20mg, but if I were feeling like you do now, I would increase now. Just my thoughts - no pressure.
Hope you feel better soon.

i have hauled hazardous materials, bombs, beer, produce, you name it i've hauled it one time or another. tonight is better, body still aches from being sick i guess and the change in weather. after ya been broke up as much as i have ya notice the weather more. by the aches!!!
i actually made a cozy fleece sheet set with calico pillow slips today. i wa able to be creative. once i feel my oats again i can start striping the rest of the cupbards so i can finish them of soon. everytime i am home sick i try to do 1/4 of the cupbards. i have 1/4 to go and 1/4 i have to do over. then we can put the floor down. nothing like a torn up house to put the icing on the cake with depression/anxiety. i have been working on this for a year.

Wow . . . from hauling bombs to making sheet sets - now that's what I call versatile!
************YOU ARE WOMAN!*******************
I'm a little confused, tho . . . did you make a sheet set AND calico pillow slips, or did you make them OUT OF calico pillow slips?? You will have to tell Magdalena about how you did it:~)
I like fixing up my house, too, but now that I'm single it takes a lot longer to do things. On the other hand - no arguments about what color or how much it costs:~)
I had a scare over my plumbing the other day. My water bill doubled this time, and I promise, there's been no need to water my yard for months. I checked all over and came to the conclusion that my sprinkler system must have a leak, so I got down in the hole with my arm (nearly tore my rotator cuff) and got it shut off. Then I called the water dept to come and see if it was still leaking. They came out yesterday and left me a message that they had READ THE METER WRONG! Nice that there's no leak, but man, it's going to be such a bear to turn my sprinklers back on. I am definitely going to work on improving that this summer - - at least dig the hole bigger so I can get at it easier.
I like doing things like that, though; makes me feel good.
How are you going to finish your cabinets - stain? paint? natural? It's a bummer that you only get to work on it when you're sick. A year is a long time to spend on one project:~)
Hope the weather improves for you; it's been really nice here.

Wow, 24 yrs old!! What a great age to be:~)
I'm glad your aunt is okay ((((SMILE))))

Night-night:~)
