Just thought I'd introduce myself.

Posted by alexandra_k on January 31, 2004, at 6:43:42

Hello. I have made a couple of posts - but I never really thought to introduce myself. I am 25, F, grad student (philosophy) from NZ. Have been diagnosed with BPD (and other stuff...) since a hospitilisation at 18.

Get up and down quite a lot. Have just started working with a new T, and hopefully that will work out ok. Can only get CBT (and DBT) here though I personally would rather do something psychodynamic that doesn't get publicly funded over here.

p-docs can do some of that - but they are just medication prescribers and don' t see people for therapy. Maybe one day when I'm rich I'll find myself someone beginning with B.

Any way, hello.

Welcome to PB! I'm a grad student as well, although a bit older than you. I get to see "Bear" through school. I really lucked out that way. Free therapy! I'll have to try to do my internship in town so I can continue to see him for one more year if necessary. Dx: atypical depression (and really narcissistic parents.)

I've only been posting for a few months, but I feel quite at home, now. This is a great place!

Hope you get to find your own B someday, as you posted. Also hope the CBT and DBT helps!

Take care and again, welcome.

Hi! Nice to meet you. How do you like DBT? I've always wanted to try it.

Hello! And welcome :)

I have Bubba, you'll find one soon, I'm sure... Since you are a student, most universities have a counseling center where you can receive free counseling. That's where I started before I found my Bubba.
I'm a student also, but an undergrad.
Posting here helps quite a bit for me. Everyone is SOOOO helpful. And it really helps to vent.

I'm dx BPD as well, with Bipolar I and a few traits of OCPD as well as PTSD. Shew, it hurts just typing that out :)

Just watch out for my spelling, OK! I refuse to use the spell check, as it locked up my computer once and I don't proof my posts either! I just type what comes naturally :)

Hope Babble helps you half as much as it has helped me. If it does, you'll be a star!!!

Welcome!

I wish I were in New Zealand, where I am (Wisconsin) the high is 7 below.

I've never done CBT or DBT. My therapist is more psychodynamic, she also does reiki, which for me is a great combination.

Poet,
It was -5 this a.m. when I got up here in Ohio.

I always wanted to learn Reiki. I bought a book once, (my addiction) but never went for an attunement to get the energy or whatever it is.

How does it feel when she does it. I'm fascinated by this.

Hello.

DBT individual therapy was good (or can be depending on the T you get and whether they are really into the spirit of it or not). DBT skills training really wasn't for me. The group was fairly diverse and... well... group therapy really isn't my scene.

I had a really good T for 8 months but then she moved regions and, well, had a full on collision with my next T. In the end I was terminated from DBT with the comment 'you have shown no clinically significant improvement with psychological intervention in the last four years and so further psychological intervention is contraindicated'. Ouch. That was crap too. So I was picked up by a charming p-doc (whose name actually did begin with B funnily enough)... They don't usually do therapy but noone else would work with me :(

He left to go to Canada and so I have just started with a new T who hasn't done any DBT but is hoping to inform her CBT with DBT (if you get what I mean). Sorry this turned into a big rambly speel... The upshot is that DBT is okay but p-doc B was better :)

AAAh yes. It is summer over here. I am actually in Australia at the moment (Canberra which is a bit of a desert) but going home to NZ on Saturday (YAY!!!). It doesn't snow where I'm at - but you can go skiing if you are into those sorts of things - couple of hours drive away. It sounds a bit cold where you guys are...

Actually hoping to get to the states next year to study. Am hoping that I will get a nice T / p-doc to see while I am there - need to suss that out before I go... Don't know how health insurance will go for me... Don't know how admissions will like my psych history... we shall see.

Am very keen to do something OTHER than CBT. I object on philosophical grounds :) I don't like little boxes and 6-8wk timeframes, and behaviour analyses drive me nuts.. oh well it surely must get better...

Hi GG,

I feel warmth all over my body; like there's a bright light surrounding me. She tells me when she's "doing an energy shift" and sometimes I can feel the shift. It's like my mind and body are being gently pulled into another direction.

I know she's touching my shoulders or top of my head, but I can't feel her at all. Her touch is so light.

Reiki is a good way for me release emotions. I never cry, but did during a reiki session that was combined with childhood pain. I think it was me crying, not the hurt inner kid.

Read the book when you get a chance. You could add reiki to the other therapies you will be skilled in.

Poet,
Thanks for explaining that. I actually did read the book when I got it several years ago. But I never went for an attunement, partly due to financial reasons and partly due to timing. I suspect that I will not be able to add this to my practice until I am licensed as my current and past supervisors would not have understood. I may investigate getting an attunement now, however. I think I know of a couple of potential sources.

I'm glad you notice an effect. Perhaps I will go for my own session, first as well.

I always enjoy your posts!

Take care,

gg
