A shockingly brilliant album. And he failed to win the Pulitzer prize for music? Racism? Pretty plausible explanation, I don't know. If you actually google the winners of the Pulitzer prizes for '72 & '73, they are both extremely forgettable scores that no one will remember a dozen score years from now. Yet, I can almost guarantee you that should Curtis's masterpiece be rediscovered two dozen score, or a dozen TIMES a dozen score years from now, the impact of his incredibly brilliant compositions and poignant lyrics will be diminished not a whit by the passage of time; time shall only serve to reinforce the universiality of Curtis's message.
Lyrics: Little Child Runnin' Wild (1972)
Little Child
Runnin' Wild
Watch a while
You see he never smilesBroken home
Father gone
Mama tired
So he's all aloneKind of sad
kind of mad
Ghetto child
Thinkin' he's been had(In the back of his mind he's sayin')
Didn't have to be here
You didn't have to love for me
While I was just a nothin' child
Why couldn't they just let me be
let me be
let me be
let me beOne room shack
On the alley-back
Control, I'm told
From across the trackWhere is The Mayor
Who'll make all things fair
He lives outside
Our polluted airAnd I didn't have to be here
You didn't have to love for me
While I was just a nothin' child
Why couldn't they just let me be
let me be
let me be
let me beI got a Jones
Runnin' through ma' bones
I'm sorry son
All your money's gonePainful rip in my upper hip
I guess it's time to take another tripDon't care what nobody say
I got to take the pain away
It's getting worser day by day
And all my life has been this way
Can't reason with The Pusherman
Finance is all that he understands
"You junkie, mama cries, you know"
Would rip her, but I love her so
Love her so, now....

Liligoth, I'm sort of remiss in not really knowing as much as I should about the best R & B. I was sort of preoccupied with classical music for many years, then I got into Jazz. It's not like I'm a music snob, I think it's that the pop music of the 60's was so DAMN GOOD that the stuff that came out later was sort of a let down (not all of it, just in general), so I started to look elsewhere for musical stimulation.
Well, I'm sorry to hear that you think that Dr. Bob might not approve of me. The last thing I want to do is alienate him before he's even said anything to me. Suffice it to say, it would be patently ridiculous to ban someone (temporarily or permanently) for merely saying something that you can say on primetime TV. Having said that, if someone whose communication style was roughly similar to my own WERE to be banned, I MYSELF would abandon the site, out of principle. I will not, needless to say, return if I am banned for as long as a nanosecond; not in a trillion years will I been heard from again at such a venue as would be so picayune as to hassle me, and it would be false modesty to say that many would not miss me (and I, they).

my sentiments exactly & Im expecting the worst for myself upon his return. Anyway, Im not big on r&b myself, the outfits I mentioned are funk bands & in their immortal words: "free your mind & your a*s will follow"!!! I mean that in general, not towards you in particular. & yes, I will certainly miss you.
cheers, Lili
