Hey, in my quest to examine my spirituality and let go of my ego, I'm looking at a few books to read. (I'm a word person, big surprise, right?)
Can anyone recommend or comment on these?
1. I'm thinking of re-reading "Yoga and the Quest for the True Self". I read it two years ago, but I think reading it _after_ a nervous breakdown would let me see it in a different light.
2. Mark Epstein's "Going to Pieces without Falling Apart" sounds interesting. But is it genuinely useful, or is it just marketing the exoticisim of Buddhism?
3. "Living Buddha, Living Christ" It would be nice to get in touch with my childhood religion again.
. . and then I'm always open to learning of any good sci fi.

I have "Going to Pieces without falling apart" and I was reading it before my terminal sonolence struck (not caused by the book:) He has another book that's very good, "Thoughts Without A Thinker". Maybe if the Provigil works, I'll be able to get back to it, and not just dust it once in a while!
I haven't read the yoga book, but it is interesting sometimes to go back and read something you read years ago and see how far you've come (hopefully).

Sounds like fun. I hope it does work. Or you could have 10 cups of coffee. :D

Dear Bookgurl- If you hven't already read Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hahn you MUST read it. My mom just passed away April 8 and I read it while she was dying and it saved my life. It is such a beautiful book so full of wonder and peace. If you are interested in Buddhism I think you would really like it. I just bought Pema Chodron's When Things Fall Apart and when I get the chance I am going to start reading that.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

Whoa,
Thich Nhat Hahn is giving a weekend seminar aimed towards police officers near my town for $500 in August. The head police officer (not sure of title) asked if he would come, and to her surprise he said yes.
wow.
This is the end of the thread.
