In reply to Photos or not............., posted by kath on January 12, 2003, at 14:16:03

Hello Kath,

In the short time I have been posting here at PSB, I have shared ideas and experiences that were at the time not preceived as I had entended them to be.

Each of us comes here with our own lives and stories and needs. Even though I am sometimes asked for my best medical or life experience advice in my face-to-face work/personal life, I also know that I can only truly know what worked(or didnt work) for me in a similar situation.

Attempting to show genunine caring can be viewed as put-down or Mr. Spock type behavior.
I have been both the giver and the reciever to this myself. Depending on the frame of mind I am in at the time often determines would or if I accept or even consider it.

As for the photos, I think that if you feel Ok about sharing a few photos thats fine. I also think the key word would be discretion. To have have 10 or more might make you vulnerable to people who might be judgmental or unkind and wonder what your intentions were.

Again, a matter of personal choice..

click or not...

Hello Kath, you can stop being paranoid now!!!!

I had been avoiding this board for a few days because I was VERY worried that I'd have more attacks against me. Anyway, after taking ten very deep breaths (and 5mg of Valium) I took the step of logging on and I am warmed by all the supportive posts directed at me.

I suppose a little time out has made me see things a little clearer and I would like to thank you all Dinah, Kam, Kath, Phil, Noa, Dreamerz etc. If I've missed anyone please get DR Bob to PBC me.

Were all so extremely human and on this board we are all a WEE bit more sensitive than those out in the general population.

TO kid a and alii in particular I hope that you will hold no grudges against me when you return from "the sandbox" [is that an ice hockey term????? Phil uses this term all the time and seems to spend quite a bit of time there. I'm from Australia so I wouldn't have a clue :) ] and that over time we will also get to understand eachother better and build up our own histories together on this board. I would really like that!!!!!.

For the rest I will be quiet on the posting front for a while.....not because I've left the board but because I've just returned to work (AGAIN) and need to spend all my energy on getting used to being at work full time again.

VERY WARM REGARDS TO YOU ALL

Any other suggestions as to what it might be, anyone?

Hey, kath...you are such a hoot!!

I have MS and use a w/c = electric wheelchair to get around. The "politically correct" term is mobility chair but I just cut that to w/c...sorry. I forgot my audience...LMAO

Syringe and Kath--

I kind of liked "witch chair", per Kath's list of possibilities for w/c. :- ) I imagine if I used a w/c, I'd like to call it that from time to time. Kind of has an air of power!

Syringe, I was actually feeling quite proud of myself for figuring out what w/c stand for, having seen an earlier post of yours saying you had MS. You don't mind me patting myself on the back for that, do you?

Interesting how the new term is mobility chair and not wheel chair--it does still have wheels, right? Although maybe it is in anticipation of technology to come in the future that might move beyond wheels?

I imagine that what ever term is used colloquially by the people who use the chairs is probably the best term, unless there is a kind of in-group and out-group language thing. Any thoughts?

Dear Noa,

I am guilty for sometimes forgetting who I am talking to and can really blow it!!

Yes, it still has wheels and its how I get
around and live my life.
That is the reason the people I socialize
with call it MC..mobility chair. Funky, huh?!LOL

This because it has become the just part of
the venicular of those who work with and part of the "handicapped" or now "physically challenged".

Once my husband and I went to a church function and this well-meaning lady asked my husband if I needed a glass of punch with a lid or to be fed...
My hubby turned to me and smiled and asked if i needed a a lid for my glass of punch or needed to be fed..
I smiled back and said loud enough for this woman to hear.." No, hun, but it might be a little kinky just to try...you first..." LMAO

That woman was embarassed enough that her actions made it known that I might be a little off from the neck down, but from the neck up Im just a crazy as everyone else!!!

Have a Great Day!!!

Oh that subject heading I put welcome back x2 with no intention of posting twice...

I can't blame it on medication either.

These are the kinds of things that kept me from working in the nice normal atmosphere my Dad wanted me too, you know, like being a secretary or something

I thought you'd like to hear about my unique computer skills, Gabbi. I can screw up a program better than anyone I know.

I took a full semester of computer science courses, thinking I might go into that field. I found I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than sit in front of a computer all day. But I did have a unique skill. During practical classes, I'd be constantly calling over the prof or a class-assigned assistant asking for help. They'd start to help, then peer closer at what I'd done & ask "How did you manage to do THAT??!!" I told them if I knew how then I'd fix it myself. I goofed up in ways they'd never seen before.

The amazing thing is the assistant to the head of the computer department asked if I'd like a part-time job acting as class assistant!! I said "With the way I screw up things?" She figured I must be familiar with almost everything that could possibly go wrong. Maybe I was, but it still didn't mean I'd knew how to fix it.

Ah, but at least I don't double post. ^_*
I bet you have a dial-up modem & slow connection & it contributes to your posts getting doubled.
