OK, no lies -- but how to say it?

Posted by Zo on March 22, 2002, at 5:10:54

What'n hell are some gracious words to say, Thank you, but I'm out of my gourd today, I'm sorry I can't go out, I'm drooling down my front. . .The black dogs of suicide are barking at my feet, can we do this next week? Etc.

Ideas?

I'm under the weather. I'm down in the dumps. (I like the black dogs of suicide line, but if they're your friends, they'll move in with you.)

My favorite of all is, "Something suddenly came up." That's an old Brady Bunch line. Marsha learned how to back out of a date using what all the guys say when they back out of dates.

But as a mother and a person who cares in general, I'm tempted to say, "Go. You'll have a good time! It might just snap you out of it to know how many people love and care for you." But then you might put my answer on the "stoopidist things anyone ever said to you" thread!

I simply say to friends "Sorry, I'm black today" & they know it's my mood & don't pressure me. But then I do have some amazing friends.

let's not over-react here, but um....

Man IsoM, way to make Malcolm X go spinnin in his grave. You must have some pretty evolved friends out there who will accept this at face value. Any of them black?
I love you, I am evolved and I hope I am your friend but if you said this around me I'd give you a big fat what for. Man, girl, "I'm black today", where the samheck is your white liberal guilt?

Never even thought of it that way. I'm very non-racial & where I live, there's lots of different races but not as many blacks. Never even occured to me as skin colour. I'm too naive sometimes.

For me, the 'black' is lack of light (like very dark night), as opposed to "I'm sunny today".

How 'bout this one: sorry, I'm white today :-) (nm)
