Age Survey -- How Old Are YOU? I'm 52.

Posted by Mark H. on February 19, 2002, at 10:20:23

We haven't done an age survey in awhile, so if you don't mind saying, please tell all of us your age. It's not a big deal, just interesting to see how many years we bring to this forum.

I'm 52.

Mark H.

I am 45 - some days feel older, some days feel 18 (nm)

Wow! Look at the grouping so far. Are we just the brave ones, or does depression tend to clump around 32 and say fifty-ish. Who else is out there? Shar? Greg? Judy1? Others?

Also, look at the number of people who say they feel younger than they are. Remember when you were in your 20s and you vaguely assumed people over the age of (fill in the blank) were basically asexual? From the way I feel at 52, I'm beginning to think there are a whole lot of 80 and 90 years olds out there who still sigh with poignant longing when they see a beautiful man or woman.

When I was about 33, I got up the nerve to ask my only truly elderly friend how it felt to be her age. She said when she woke up in the morning, sometimes she'd say to herself, "These aren't my hands!" She still felt 19, except for the arthritis and a few vision problems.

I'm VERY glad to know I'm not the only middle-aged person on this board, even though I treasure participation by younger and older people as well.

Thanks for participating!

Mark H.

OK Mark, because it's you...

I'm 21....twice....and then some.

I'm 46, although most days feel like 66 with an occasional 16 thrown in. I was going to stick with the 21 but I knew that Tina, Shar and Mouse would have a field day with that...

I may be middle-aged but I still enjoy sex, drugs (my meds guys, jeez!) and rock-n-roll!

Greg

Mark, similar to Greg's comments from an older friend, I have one that told me she often gets a bit of a shock when she passes by a mirror, thinking "who is that old person there?" Another older woman in her 80s said when she slipped & fell down the stairs, she couldn't understand why her body behaved so differently when her mind & heart doesn't.

If a person is an old, boring fart, it just means that many years ago, they were a young, boring fart. :-)
Most people still feel young in their heart but do tend to get locked in the music & hairstyles they had when they first became adults. It helps when you have young sons or friends that are always introducing you to new ideas & music to prevent your tastes from growing stale. The styles in clothes in just perfect for me now with hemlines being any length & all sorts of diff ethnic styles added. I fit right in with the long flowing semi-hippie/semi-Renaissance clothes around now.

As for depression emerging at a certain age, I can't speak for others but have been like this most of my life. Just that a name & diagnoses got slapped on it when I was in my mid-30s.

49 - Wish I'd known then what I know now!! (nm) (nm)

But depression made me feel VERY old...

Now I see myself differently... 34, lots to offer, plenty of energy, good stuff to come, etc.

Before it was: I'm 32, is this over yet? Life bores me, I wish I was 70 so it'd be over sooner, etc.
