The main symptoms are intolerance to cold (subjective feelings of coldness while others appear comfortable), thin dry skin, constipation, weight gain despite low caloric intake, fatigue and sleepiness. Sometimes reduced heart rate/blood pressure. Hope that helps some,
Mitch

Plus, anxiety, tremors, and in women, heavy periods. Thinning hair, hormonal changes and general irritability. You'd be amazed at how many symptoms go along with underactive thyroid.
There is a wonderful link in the psychobabble links are that has alot of info in it. You'll find it in the main welcome text at the top of the babble page.

Kristi,

Simple blood test for TSH -thryroid stimulating hormone. Don't accept 'You're in low normal range' as an answer. many people have hypothyroid symptoms when levels are in what is considered normal range. (me) Depression is another low thyroid symptom.

Also Kristi, if you are unsatisfied have them do the t3 and t4 tests as well. I have all the symptoms too and every doc I get to test me says "oh you're fine, must be in your head"
Don't accept that. Do your homework and go in there packing!
let us know how it goes

Thank you all for you advice and comments. Went to the doc today and she scheduled me for some blood work. I actually got slammed today... she found something wrong with my heart.... and my swollen lymph nodes are more of a problem then I thought. She's testing me for Hotchkins... or however you spell that. My symptoms all point there. So we'll see. I'm exhausted right now and can't wait to just sllllllllleeeeeeeeep. Thanks everyone for listening. Kristi

Me too Kristi as far as staying in touch. I don't know much about Hodgkins (sp?) except that it's very treatable.
