poem for sunday night: Inside the Kiss 11/05/2001

INSIDE THE KISS

it is a box,
they will not accept
it

they will not take
it

take it back, No siree,
it ticks, see? take
it back

My shoes are in the
box, too, yes
some socks, a pair
of shortpants and
a pressed neat
shirt-- it's
harmless, really
wont you
take it with
you for a
little
while?

lets see, i could
give you some lovely
plastic flowers, yes
God's good gauruntee,
a chocolate box, will
you take it?

hold it for a bit
its too heavy for
me
my arms are wilting
like asparagus
im no good at
carrying this box
yes yes, far too
heavy for
me

The box is my arms,
my legs, all the
parts God and
doctor put together
i stuff
it with a kind of
blood and a
History.
put together--
with stiches
not me, no
some surgeon
sewed it
right up!
KaPow! a Rebirth
and the box
is born

i want my Mother
to carry it,
but she lives in
her own box
now, that is her
burden

My Father can not
carry it, it's
not allowed
and besides, he is
busy with his
Jesus, the one
that
firebombs
the
baby killers.
And really
anyways--
like me,
he couldn't
bear the
weight

and the rest,
will they take it?
will they take it?

too big, they
cry! that box is
an eyesore, and
they climb back into
their drink glasses
thick with
ideas

i want It shorn!
i want to remember it
in pieces, cutters
cutters, say
Jahweh-- lay it out
in full and fold
it, crisp it
flat like a
dandelion
i want it boxed!
a box inside
a box! how poetic!
oh what a bore--
what a laugh
and cover it
with flowers--
will you?

i want it laid
and wrap it
with a bow
tea kettle and
whiskey glass
like a wake!
no, a wedding!
no no! a
birthday!
and it's so lovely
yes?, so darling,
what a fox--
and will you
carry it?
now--
will you carry
it? oh will
you--
will you
kiss it,
oh will you
kiss it,
now?

will you
kiss
it?

dear kid~
god, i just hate it when talented creative people are able to be productive & let the (art) stuff flow! i am an artist (i guess) who has produced so little, but, maybe someday..

poetry is lovely, spooky, strange, oblique, enticing & intimidating. I am a reference person. u wanna see ref. books? come on over...i like to read the dict. for entertainment (nowadays it's med. ref. bks.)

so,iwanted to tell u i liked ur poem, but i don't really know what it means. guess i'm not s'posed to.

is it ok for me to ask u questions about it?
it brought up many tangible images. r questions too personal?

i'll have to ask them later tho, if it's ok..

thanks for the poem

You'll fit right in here. I'm one of the dictionary type too, but for me it's out of need. Have you ever taken an English lit class? Helps with understanding poems.

my childood friends referred to me as the "human dictionary."

i did read Webster's in my spare time, mostly for sex words and vocab words, but other things too.

j'aime les mots.

in a college class i learned to *explicate.* i think mastering this talent has driven me to the point of paranoid-insanity. as a good eng lit major should be.

i do own a black turtleneck, and i drink merlot.

this is the way god created matter.

everyone: thanks for reading + kind words (!!) (nm)

> so,iwanted to tell u i liked ur poem, but i don't really know what it means. guess i'm not s'posed to.

its a metaphor for my personal relationships with people, my life is too much for people to handle so they distance themselves from me at times, at least thats my notion, this could be only my truth...

> is it ok for me to ask u questions about it?

i write in a confessional mode, so most of what i do write would be deemed personal, but im not writing it solely for myself so i dont mind your inquiries...

im glad you liked it...
thanks.
