Posted by sar on September 12, 2001, at 0:13:21

have any of you had a friendship or relationship with a narcissist, like someone w/ narcisistic personality disorder?

a few months ago i read a letter to my psych from a friend of mine and she said he definitely sounded like a narcissist. now that i've done some research, i agree. 9 years--but he's more poison than puddin...

any stories/comments would be appreciated.

thanks,
sar

If we had a little less of that problem we may not be in the pickle we are in now!

good link, elizabeth.

the narcisisst i know is loud and cocky, always insists that he is right, brags grandly about his sexual conquests, and exploits other people--al of his friends are more like admirers, it's not like even friendship--this guyi is truly talented but so cocksure that it's disgusting. his handwriting is huge, voice loud, interrupts others constantly, and makes himself out to be the "alpha male" or the next jack kerouac.

submissive/borderline types and narcissists are often drawn to each other. now that i'm medicated and no longer feel submissive or borderline, i've ceased the relationship.

as a narcissist, i believe he will rationalize it by telling himself that i've "gone crazy" as he knows of my hospitalizations etc, but i don't care anymore. i'm not crazy, just a little wiser.

narcisissts are manipulative and thrive on adulation.
