I posted a similar ? on Substance Abuse.
A person I was w/ recently left to go to the store, said he'd get his head on straight by the time he returned. He'd been a real nut case b4 he left. When he returned he was cool, collected, and went to kiss me. There was a distinct 'medicinal odor' to his breath ... like someone whom has been on antibiotics for awhile OR someone sick ... hard to describe ... but a definitive medicinal smell.
Anyone ever had this experience???
Maybe I was 'way off base', as I accused and it really flipped him out. He is a recovering addict, manic bipolar, .. so there is some difficulty in determining his state all the time.

> tksforanycomments, cfi worked in ER for awhile and we could smell the patients who had been concocting the meth. you can smell the ether. i've been around a lot of meth users and i don't have a clue if you can smell it on their breath. but you sure can tell if they are "cooking" it.......

Maybe that's the smell ... 'ether', from 'smoking it through a pipe'. I've been trying to pinpoint the property and that might be it.

I didn't smell it until he 'returned from an errand', and then 'went to kiss me' for the first time that night.

He was more 'smooth', more 'cool and collected'.
This is the way he becomes w/ its usage.
Otherwise, labeled bipolar(?), he is manic pretty much all the time. On Rit as child. Wonder they overlooked ADHD because the psychs were aware of his drug abuse. Meth acts like Ritalin in him.

use your nose to smell something. women have a great sixth sense. when I smoked a lot of weed--we washed our hands, put on cologne, ate some peppermint and put in a couple drops of visine in our eyes--most would never know--except someone else who smoked--uncanny. I say--if there's a doubt--get out--it will only continue to creep into the back of your mind. It's a shame that us bipolars don't always get the benefit of the doubt---but sometimes we shouldn't . don't let this opinion stress you out too much--just giving you my two cents.

keep your mind open that he may be using something other than meth. in my experience meth energizes more than calms. no doubt in my mind that he had ingested something from your description........good luck.........crack will subdue and calm some patients.
