my significant other just became my fiance on Saturday night.
His father just died (he's the one who has to deal with everything) and now he's realizing a few things.
He doesn't want our government to take everything he's earned when he dies- he wants me to be his beneficiary. He went to deal with the funeral arrangements in a different state by himself and realized how much he wanted me around him all the time- that he loves me that much and missed me greatly. He realized that calling someone "my wife" is a declaration to the rest of the world which says that he loves me and respects me and expects his friends and family to treat me that way.
Lots of different reasons...
