I worry all the time

Posted by Squiggles on September 3, 2005, at 20:15:17

I worry about the chronic ill health
of someone close and beloved. It seems to
have become my life. I seem to worry
even more than the doctor does or anyone
else does.

Is this normal?

It might be normal but it doesn't sound like it's good for anybody.

I dont think its normal to think like that too much BUT I think it is normal that people go through phases of that kind of worry and especially when really sad things have just happened ie. Katrina. Stuff like that generlly gets people worrying about life and death. sorry if this is differnet then you meant. In short- I agree with Susan.

Thanks Susan47 and rainbowbrite,

Yes, you are right -- sad things have
happened and they have not let up long
enough to recuperate, and for some time
there has not been much reason to expect
improvement; i don't get depressed but
sad because fortunately, i'm on lithium.
Though it's not a Katrina situation, we have
been through an ice storm which was traumatic.
Basically, i tend to anticipate trouble
before it happens but the greater the probability
of it, the greater the worry. In the past
seven years, i'd say many bad things have
happened, both personally, to friends and
neighbours, and in the world-wide
arena.

I guess it's human nature, but i wish i
could have a better coping mechanism.

thank you for your replies.

There are a lot of really good coping mechanisms out there, in the world, but if you're like me it isn't easy to use them when you need them .. because it takes self-control and discipline. I don't have much of either, I'm afraid, at times.

I have had the same problem all my life. All of a sudden I will find myself in the middle of my son's car accident or some other made up drama. I started taking effexlor and it helps.

It could be anxiety - it's part of
my temperament since i was a kid too.
Thanks for the feedback - maybe mention it to my dr.

o/t Imipramine is stronger than desipramine

I forgot to mention the good news vis a vis
my friend - funny it's easier to harp on
the bad news.

One of my worries is now gone, because
the switch to imipramine (at a higher dose)
has made a miraculous difference in
clinical depression. Either the desipramine
dose was too low to have the equivalent
imipramine effect, or it would become too
toxic at an equivalent dose. Anyway imipramine
works at the average dose (200mg i think)
and it's her own damn fault for not following
the dr.'s advice and lowering it.

On the other hand, these old warhorse drugs
do have strong side effects. Maybe the newer
ones have less side effects but less efficacy
too for clinical depression.
