have any of you read...

Have any of you read this book?

"Between Therapist and Client"

I'm thinking about buying it but I'm really crazy with not spending money to buy a book unless I REALLY want it, and I'm just not sure. Any thoughts?

I realize there's a books board, but I thought I'd be more likely to get a hit here.

Yep, I read it a few years ago. I thought it was good, though I still liked "In Session" better. I'd have to look at the book to remember specifics, and I'm at work, so sorry I can't be more helpful. It was good though; I'd recommed it.

Thanks for the comments. I went ahead and ordered it a few minutes ago, so we'll see! I already own In Session and I like it a lot, but this looks promising to.

Thanks for the gold star muffled! Yes!! :)

Glad you ordered it! Even though I don't remember it as vividly as I do "In Session", it is still a book that I pick up and refer to every now and then. I'm pretty sure it has an index in the back too which I like for when I am looking for a specific topic. I remember it being an easy read and not clinical, anyway, I like "these types" of books so hopefully you will gain something from it as well. :)

I apparently own it, but I don't really remember reading it.

I just finished rereading it. It is actually pretty good, though mostly from the therapist's perspective. I liked "A General Theory of Love" better, though not completely about therapy.

Just a word of caution, most of these books are written about the relationship being the most important healing element. If you don't have a psychodynamic therapist or an "enlightened" analyst, you may begin to feel a little bad about your own therapy - wishing for stuff that isn't happening. Especially if you have a therapist who doesn't hug or touch. Remember that the best way to deal with these feelings is to bring them up with your therapist, if you can. I used to say stuff and my therapist would say, "I don't do therapy that way." At first I was like, "well, OK then!" (It came up mostly around goal setting and me wanting to know what he thought I should do about things. He leaves a lot of that kind of stuff up to me.) But we had a lot of good discussions about fantasy therapy and the reality of the pain and work involved.

I hope you like the book.

Thanks Daisy... I think you make a very good point. It's so easy to read/hear something and say "well why doesnt MY therapist do it that way!" and be upset by it. I do that occasionally here, reading about other peoples therapists and things theyve done. It's definitely not healthy. I appreciate you bringing that up and I will be careful with that while reading the book.

I'm also going to check out that other book.. it sounds interesting. Thanks!
