...all the therapy in the World

Posted by 64bowtie on September 17, 2005, at 11:14:56

If I continue to run my life guided mostly by my childhood limitations, ALL THE THERAPY IN THE WORLD won't make my life better... Therapy by adults, targeting adult attributes, only works on adults... Since I insist on looking at the World through my comfortable and familiar visions I carried forward from my childhood, The results of all that therapy will be like Einstien teaching Quantum Physics to a room full of 5 year olds; I won't 'GET IT'...

I am certain I have a way out... I can change my mind!!! But, but, but, gee Mr. Wizard, to change still seems like I'm loosing something; maybe even myself; who I am... All us kids feel the same way; 'change means loss'... So what good is all these hours of therapy if I am losing myself??? Huh, Mr. Wizard???

(Perhaps as a child in the 50's watching Mr. Wizard on a black and white TV each afternoon has left me distorted?!?!?!?!)

Change doesn't impact me these days since I became certain that me and the guy in the mirror speak with one voice, confidently, consistently... I did have to reckon with a shoddy 'Concept of Self'... Immediately, my life then became less messy... Me and the guy in the mirror became my 'dream team'; my dreams started getting fullfilled, here and there, as appropriate...

It sounds like you're happy and already have everything. Why do you need to come here for support? What can i say to help?
i'm happy for you that you were able to make it all happen,

Thanx a bunch for your concern... I am here trying to figure out how to tell my story without sounding or being UN-CIVIL... Dr. Bob has pointed out my foibles, so believe me, I need more time here...

Most important is any stories about implementing recovery strategies, successful or failures... The strategy I have adopted for myself is to seek out goodness, truth and beauty... I also seek out other folks who themselves seek out experiences of goodness, thruth and beauty... We can and do share the bliss...

What are you working toward???

I agree with your post 64bowtie. I agree so much, I am changing your name to 128bowtie! ;~}

Once I figured out WHY things in my life had such a rotten effect, I had to change the way I reacted to those things in order to let them go and move forward.

Don't get me wrong, I do still suffer from depression. I do still take meds. It was NOT EASY. But I am no longer carrying around the heavy, suffocating burdens of feeling so very, VERY angry/hurt/unloved/unworthy/powerless/rejected, etc.

Don't think I'm on the dream team yet, but currently, I'm off the bench, making some 3 pointers and playing all but about 3 minutes of every game.
