SAD question

Posted by PM80 on May 24, 2005, at 8:04:58

I have a seasonal affective disorder question. Does this disorder mean that your mood responds only to the seasons and seasonal changes or can it also include a mood that responds to the specific weather of the day?

I swear my mood responds to the day. I am almost always fighting melancholy on cloudy, rainy days and feeling a good (and sometimes hypomanic) on sunny days - in addition to generally feeling better in the summer and worse in the winter. I have been like this at least since jr high. Does everyone feel this way? I am have a bp dx, fyi. Do most bp's respond so strongly to the weather?

I'm unipolar and when I'm depressed I PREFER cloudy, rainy days. They're comfortable & reassuring. Sunny days seem to demand so much...

I experience the same thing. It can be so unnerving. When it is cloudy and/or rainy, I notice a definite decline in my mood and energy. And, if I am experiencing PMS at the same time, it can be horrible - the sort of empty, nothing matters feeling. I woke up today feeling a bit out of sorts, and took my dog for a walk. Sure enough by around noon, it started to cloud over and, shortly thereafter, rain. Sure enough, I have been feeling weepy and hopeless most of the morning for no other apparent reason. I am not bp, although my family doctor thought I might be, but I am quite affected by the weather and have been for as long as I can remember.
