VISCERAL ....

I think some to many of us who have been abused as childen and adults tend to me more visceral. I am thinking...not sure, but I wonder if in general when people come to terms with the abuse say talking about it to a T or someone..they though civil can be more visceral in their language and emotions, reporting etc because their FEELINGS are so close to the surface and need to be expressed?....

hmmm...this actually is the opposite of what happens with me. Though I'm not close to "coming to terms" with any of it yet.

Most of the time, when I report an "episode" I talk pretty generally and clinically if I need to be more specific. I keep the emotions at bay because I *can't* feel it and report it at the same time. The feelings are so overwhelming they shut me down.

Usually what happens is I tell him something and we spend the rest of the session, or the next one, on how it felt to tell him. He then usually moves me into how it felt at the time. But, I've supressed this stuff a long time. And, I work with little kids, so I tend to really watch my language, just out of habit. I remember the first time I used the F-word, I thought my Therapist would fall out of his chair...

For me Daisy I tend to be more graphic in my thinking as well as when I talk on it. I do not mean *all* swearing and all but unlike say my sister..who was more a teary shy on it kind of person I tend to get right to the point in detail and not all prettied up..I can be very detatched and maybe that is why...I think the feelings SEEP out in the words..I bet there is a 50/50 split on this and I wonder if there are any studies on this. Thank you and I find this all very intresting
