atypical depression?

Is depression always accompanied by saddness? What would you label a mental state of neutral disinterest to almost everything? Not sad, really, but just sort of "who cares?" to life in general. Never really looking forward to anything, or appreciating the present.

What you describe sounds like extreme apathy. I think it could be a form of depression. When I read your post it reminded me of a few lines in the Eagles song, "Desperado":
"Don't your feet get cold in the wintertime? The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine".
"And losing all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?"

Eddie Sylvano I have been able to relate to many of your posts.
Except for two extrememly short periods in recent history.. the closest my depression has come to being cured has been when the suicidal anxiety
has been eliminated and I'm left waiting for the floorshow. I think it must be a form of depression because I know it wasn't something I consciously did when it lifted.
Sometimes I get a little ashamed that I don't have the 'stuff' other people my age have. Other than that though, I have no bloody idea what I would consider worth having.. nothing
I actually posted about this somewhere on the board. I wish I could help, but I most definately understand for all thats worth.
