Hi,
I have an anxiety problem. I hate going to social events where my close group of friends aren't there. I also hate answering or calling anyone on the phone. My doctor started me on paxil. Has anyone else had this probelm and tried paxil? Did it help? Is another medication good for this? Thanks.

Did your doc inform you of all the side-effects of paxil so you could make an informed choice (or did he give you a choice?) I take benzos for anxiety- they work extremely well. But I really think any med in this situation is a band-aid, you really should try therapy- it will teach you coping skills so you'll be able to handle this on your own. (Although I still hate answering the phone- it's always telemarketers anyway ;-) Take care, judy

Hi David,
There's another board called just plain PsychoBabble that is dedicated to issues about medications. You're liable to get a lot more knowledgeable answers there. So I'll try to redirect you.
But if you want information on cognitive behavior therapy or other therapeutic treatments of social anxiety, this board is the place to be! Maybe someone can give you some advice.

I don't think you did post on the wrong board! Your original question was about social phobia and difficulty answering the phone! NOT about meds... The redirect should have been to Social, if anything at all...Besides, there are so many boards here, it's easy to get confused... Good luck with the social phobia thing - I don't remember seeing your question on Social (but I don't read it religiously), perhaps you could start a new thread there, I'm sure you could get some support about it, if it's still bothering you. I often hate answering the phone!
