hello and a Klonopin withdrawal question

Posted by nacreous on February 5, 2009, at 3:15:02

Hello to everyone. I am new here and glad to be here. I have read many of your posts and can relate to many of them. I recently tapered off Klonopin which ended 4.5 months ago. It was difficult but I did it. I still have some symptoms but they are tolerable except for one. Has anyone also withdrew from Klonopin or other Benzo and had a very stubborn and persistent runny nose of mainly a thin clear fluid that doesn't respond well to allergy meds? I am beginning to think it isn't withdrawal anymore that is causing it. But when I was still on the klonopin if I took an extra pill it would make the sinus fluid stop untill that klonopin dose wore off. Thanks for any and all advice. This is my worse and most disturbing symptom besides the loud ringing in my ears. Sincerely, Nacreous.

Hi - welcome. I don't have experience in this. If you don't receive a reply in what feels like a comfortable time for you, you can always post on the Withdrawal Board or on the Meds Board.

Hi Nacreous, can I ask about the ringing in your ears? Do you believe it is directly related to klonopin discontinuation? I have been having ringing/buzzing in my ears too, and it seemed to begin when I stated cutting back on the klonopin. Was on 1.5mg, now down to 0.75 for now. I'm trying to rule out other possibilities, I was exposed to some high decibel levels at work a couple months ago, so I thought that was the culprit, however that has happened a couple other times on the job in the past decade, I had some buzz/ringing but it ALWAYS went away after a couple days...herpills

Hi Herpills, my tinnitus began when I started the taper..long before I was off the klonopin. At first it really bothered me, but then I got used to it. When it's bad it is like New Mexico locust on a hot day...or any kind of insect buzzing. Most of the time it's a needle of high pitch sound. I know it will stick around for months or years...but it is slowly but surely decreasing and will continue as long as I don't give in to temptation to take even just 1.5 mg klonopin. When I went back to my previous dose a few times the ringing did not go away and it has been there ever since. That was 4 years ago. But since my last klonopin on Sep 15, 2008 it has become the worse a month later and has diminished to about half that. My runny nose/rhinorrhea is a much worse symptom to deal with so the ringing is just an annoyance. However I am becoming more convinced that it is not klonopin related or caused...especially since I seem to be the only one with it. I guess it's off to the allergist I go. Thank you for your post and I hope you will persist in your goals...to either find that right dose or stop completely if you choose. You may wish to read the literature about successfully tapering at www.pointofreturn.com. Without that support group I'm not sure I could have made it. Good luck and I wish you the best! nacreous.

I forgot to mention that I am 100% convinced that the ringing is caused by the taper...even just going down .75 my from 2mg. When I back slid the ringing did not stop so I just kept tapering. I highly doubt it was from the noise at your job or that you have any permanent damage. I have been exposed to loud noise before the klonopin and any ringing never lasted more than a day or two. Don't give up. Sincerely, nacreous.
