Hi and welcome, Lynn.
I started Cymbalta 30mg a month ago. It's an SNRI which means it's a selective norepeniphren (sp?) reuptake inhibitor. Unlike SSRI's which work on serotonin, Cymbalta acts on norep, serotonin and some dopamine. I never did well on SSRI's but I'm doing pretty well on Cymbalta. I noticed a lift in my mood on the 6th day and it improved more since then. 30mg is a very low dose so I may go higher. I think 60mg is considered the therapeutic dose.
I had some mild side effects in the beginning which quickly disappeared. The only ones I'm left with are tremor, dry mouth and constipation. I've had no weight gain so far and no increase in appetite. I am having some difficulty now though with anxiety but I doubt that's caused by the Cymbalta.
Hope this is helpful.

Hello and welcome!
I have been on Cymbalta for over a year at the 60mg dosage. I found it took a long time until it became effective (5 weeks of use), and that the improvement in my depression was subtle. Not an "Aha I feel so much better now, what a great medicaion!" but more like, "oh, I don't feel as back today. I think I might be able to get through this."
I have experienced increased frequency of headaches that subsided with time. I also experience the constipation.Hey, I'm still on it. It's not a miracle for me but does allow me to function.

I am one who did not do well on cymbalta. But what do they say different things work for different people. Wishing you the best of luck on whatever treatment you receive and hope it works.
Peace
