My name is Jerri, and I've been taking Effexor XR for one year now. I'm having side-effects, but it's alot better than the profound depression I had.
My blood pressure went from 105/60 to 130/85. I am having wild and vivid dreams. I can get manic sometimes, my daughter keeps telling me to slow down when talking, and I worry about long-term use and liver damage, since 80 per cent of this med is expelled by the liver.

I am in the process of tapering from Effexor XR. In fact, I only have two days left. I am changing meds as the list of side effects just far outweighed the actual help this drug was giving my depression.
I am lucky that I did not experience any blood pressure problems but I can identify with the mania. My husband and Mom are forever telling me to slow down and not to shout. The wild and vivid dreams are now becoming the norm for me. I cannot remember when last I had a good dream free sleep.
This is a good drug, but works for some and not for others.
I don't know much about the liver and the effects of this drug on the liver but if you pop over to the Psycho Babble board which concentrates on medication related issues, you will find a wealth on information and experiences on various medications over there.

HI I ALSO STOPPED TAKING EFFEXOR 75MG IT WAS REALLY BAD FOR ME I HAVE PANIC AND ANXIETY AND THIS DRUG MADE ME SO DEPPRESED IT WAS UNREAL THE DREAMS AND NIGHT SWEATS TOO ALONG WITH BLURRED VISION NO APPITATE AND MY HAIR STARTED TO FALL OUT (ONLY A LIL BUT ENOUGHT FOR ME) THIS IS MY THIRD DAY OFF THE DRUG AND IM NOT FEELING TO GOOD MY HEAD FEELS NUMB AND I KEEP JUMPING VERY WEIRD ANY WAY GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE FOR EVRYONE JUST BELIVE. OH BY THE WAY JERRI YOU SAID YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER I DO TO SHES 5 DO YOU EVER WORRY ABOUT HER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM YOU DO ?
