Greetings and Salutations,
New to the site. I've had depression for about 25 years. I'm fine while on medication. They wear out every few years and I have to change them. It's more or less biological now. I've done all the councelling I need.
I've just changed to Lexapro from Effexor. It's about my 5th medication over the years. So I'm familiar with most of the side effects.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has experienced any difficulties with Lexapro, especially withdrawing from converstation. Which seems to be what it's doing to me at the momement. I've only been on it for a month or so. So I'm expecting the side effects to wear off like they have with other drugs.
Hope to hear from people soon.
Mic

Hi Mic,
Welcome to babble, feel free to check out the social part of babble - there is a bunch of us on Lexapro. You will be able to find out everyones side effects etc...
I am pretty new to this site myself and always check back here to welcome the new people because that was very important to me when I was very new.I am 33 and suffer from anxiety/panic disorder since I was 17 on and off and Lexapro is the first medication I have ever tried for my anxiety other than xanax. I was sick of living my life in fear of when or where my next panic attack was going to happen so I finally talked to my doctor and she prescribed the Lexapro which I have found to be very helpful.
I have only been on the Lex for 8 weeks now and can say that at first I was very discouraged and almost flushed them down the toilet...the zombie feeling, nausea, headache etc...I am happy to say that because of this site and the wonderful people I have met, I stuck it out through all the side effects and I am feeling much better now. I use to take a low dose of xanax at bedtime everynight but now I don't need one.
I can honestly say that I have only had to take a few xanax right before my mentrual cycle which is great considering that I had to take one every night before bed.
Well feel free to post and check out the rest of the sites...the people are great.
Be well,
anxious babe

> MicWelcome Mic,
I'm Caper and I've been on medications off and on since I was 22 or 23 I think. I'm 31 now.
Lexapro was my last one, and since I admit to a history of trying meds and deciding way too soon that "this doesn't work!" or "this side effect is too bad, I'm not taking this!" I decided to give Lexapro a more than decent chance.
It did absolutely NOTHING for me. No side effects, but no benefits. It was like I was taking a placebo and I took it from December til April. Now I'm on Zoloft, but trying to convince doctor to make it Wellbutrin instead, plus possibly adding trileptal soon (mood stabilizer).
Anyway, I'm obviously no fan of Lexapro, but that could be just because SSRIs no longer work for me, although prozac did for years. I'm going for Wellbutrin because it works not on serotonin, but on norepinephrine and dopamine.
I've had friends who had great experience with Lexapro though. Try posting the Lexapro question on the "Babble" board. I'm sure you'll get some helpful responses.
Take care,
Caper
