Mood stabilizer use for paxil withdrawl

I've heard of this before. Just wondering if anyone has done this or do you think it's a viable option.

I don't know about mood stabilizers, but back when I was trying to discontinue effexor (I wasn't even on it for that long, and it was horrible to get off), benadryl (diphenhydramine) was really helpful, especially for the nausea. Might be something else to look into.

Janejane,

Oh I wish that my withdrawl from paxil could have been eased with benadryl. Never! Mine was more mental terror than physical symptoms like nausea or the zaps, etc.

It sounds plausible that a mood stabilizer might do it though huh?

I don't know anything about mood stabilizers, sorry. Hopefully others will be able to chime in on this.

When I discontinued paxil just bit off a small portion daily and in about two weeks was over no side effects that way. Phillipa

Hi Laney,

The problem with using a mood stabalizer to taper off of Paxil is then once your taper is over, you have to deal with getting off the 2nd drug you added.

The best way to taper off of Paxil is to to taper very slowly (10% of current dose every 3 to 6 weeks). Some people might have to go even more slowly.

Paxil comes in the liquid form which will make it easier to taper this way.

Hope this helps.
