Just zipping through my lists

Posted by ClearSkies on November 20, 2007, at 17:25:27

Either I am one efficient machine or my lists are too darn easy. Or somewhere in between. But making the lists is very soothing. Making the lists removes the items from my immediate brain and commits them to paper, where they sit for a few hours until I can strike them through as DUN. A few things, I have noticed, make it on to my lists even though I actually have no control over whether or not they get done. This is enlightening, because I still get the same sense of relief from writing them down, plus I get to see, after a day has gone by (and they are still there), that there was nothing I could do to make the thing get done or not.

OK, so I'm reinventing the wheel here. But it's nice to have a feeling of accomplishment during these hectic days when I feel as if I'm going in a thousand different directions at once. I can look at my long lists and all the items that I can strike off, and say, "yes, you were going in a thousand directions at once - and look what you got done!"

Tonight, with a house full of in-laws (OK, there are only 2 of them, but it feels like a lot more), I am making a break for a yoga class. My in-laws noses are definitely out of joint - go to a yoga class instead of dining with them? (With my most definite pleasure.) Instead, I say, smiling at them, that I'm doing this "for my back" and that it was a prearranged appointment that I just couldn't avoid. Just a teensy white lie. I scheduled the class to coincide with their visit so that I would have an oasis of peace to start the holidays on the right note. Tee hee!!
