Zero Self Esteem

Posted by Poet on July 7, 2006, at 9:24:18

I am convinced I was born without a self esteem gene. Anyone else think they're genetic mutants?

I think that mine was precariously balanced, and my mum tipped it over. The older I get, the more I've come to accept that she can't fix it... but *I* can.
Eventually. I'm writing a do-it-ourselves manual.

I believe I was born without a self esteem gene too. I know my sister feels the same way. I have had some people tell me that I act like I have tons of self confidence, but, what they don't know is I am right the opposite on the inside. Why is that?

I've come to accept that fixers are dangerous and I alone can fix my low (zero on some days) self esteem.

Hi Gingerlyn67,

Maybe those of us born without self esteem learn early on that we are different so we pretend to have what others seem to have naturally? In other words keep up that outward appearance?

I've been told that I speak well in front of people and I know that I am sick to my stomach with fear. So I guess I can keep up appearances when I know inside I don't feel secure or confident with myself.

Hi Rainbutterfly,

My therapist is trying to work on my lack of self esteem with me. I don't want to think of her as a fixer, maybe a suggester? She says every baby is born with self esteem, it just gets taken from some of us. Well, mine must have been taken so early that I don't remember having it then.

Hi Heaven Help Me,

I wanted to change my name to Failure awhile back, but other babblers convinced me I should stay Poet. I do write poetry and some of the zero self esteem is that I have issues with people reading it. I guess I'm afraid of what they really think. There are a few on the writing board.
