T says I don't do enough stuff for me like fun hobbies. I am supposed to start doing something. Just once a week. But I can't seem to think of anything and when I do I talk myself out of it.
What do you guys do for yourself to help with depression and self-esteem. Something strictly fun and/or relaxing. To get away even for an hour...

I like to do solitary activities for myself - like read a book, listen to a CD and do a guided meditation, journal.
As for hobbies, I make candles, jewellery, some needlepoint, go to baseball games, listen to new music.

I like building & fixing things.
Right now I'm working on (trying) to restore a 1930's resophonic guitar rescued from a barn.
The good thing is I don't play, so I won't know if it's wrong. It just has to look good.
If that fails, watch Springer. It's graranteed to make you feel superior.

What kind of things do you like to do?
Do you like music? maybe locate an open mic night in a coffee shop nearby or something? those can be fun to watch (or be in for that matter)
..you know I took a dance class at my local high school, it was one night a week for a certain number of weeks and cheap (the key word there being "cheap") but good because it requires a certain amount of committment each week. They offer different types of things.
Since it's the summer however I don't know how many classes might be offered or if such a thing might exist at a school near you.craigslist.com sometimes has interesting postings about activities or stuff in my area...maybe in yours too?

I think that's a wonderful idea -- because you are so cheering here, it would be nice to think you're rewarding yourself the way you reward us.
Personally, I knit. Sometimes that's less relaxing than others, but my "treat" for myself is to go hang out and knit in my local yarn store. How's that for pathetic? But mostly I like the other people there, and it does put me into a room with other human beings, and all I have to do is knit and talk. I can certainly talk...
And they seem to think I knit well, too...

I have been getting up earlier. Abilify gives me a slight insomnia. I go to bed ok, but about 5:30 in the morning I can't sleep anymore. That's not so bad. I've been getting up and doing a thing or two. I even feel better that I did.

As I mentioned in a previous thread:
...self esteem is achieved when we learn to accept that we are worth more to others than to ourselves. The more selfless we become, the more become ourselves.

I do too. I even like it when people break things accidentally. Then I get to fix them. I could write a handbook on improvised repairs!! haha

Each thing that needs fixing gives another excuse to buy a tool...

My husband is fixing the cat's automated litterbox today.
Last week he fixed the bike rack on top of the car.
I'm glad he hasn't had me fixed yet.
