I've been having trouble with something that I think is related to my digestion and/or metabolism. It seems as though there's no way to predict how long it will take something to get past my stomach -- rarely, I'm hungry again just about half an hour after I eat, which is a problem, but more often I feel uncomfortably full for HOURS after eating.
The other day, I had a piece of pizza for lunch at about 2PM, and felt lousy about it and way overfull, but then stayed with that "way overfull" feeling until nearly 9PM! I wasn't going to eat dinner at all, but my husband got very upset at that. I think he thinks this is "only" anorexic stuff, but I am worried about delayed gastric emptying, gastroparesis, etc. I'm also worried that it really was just psychological, that my upset about eating the pizza -- something I love, but have a hard time allowing myself to eat -- made me think I felt full all that time, when I really wasn't.
I'm also just beside myself about that whole hunger/satiety thing. I don't ever feel "just right" these days -- I'm a bit hungry, or I'm feeling so overstuffed I feel sick. And, after eating, I do feel so sick for a while. And I swear this is getting much worse.
{sigh} Yet more reasons to wish I could lose weight, but I can't seem to get a pound off. And my pdoc is watching me a bit more closely since starting stimulants. She says that if she thinks I've lost any weight, she will start weighing me. I do NOT want that to happen.
Has anyone gone through all this and come out the other side?

You are not alone. When I first entered recovery and began to eat (who knew we needed to do that?), I had the same problems. I was terribly full after a small meal, sometimes felt hungry right after eating, and sometimes I didn't feel hungry at meal time. The nurse who led my ED group used to tell us, if you are hungry "EAT,", and if you aren't hungry, don't eat. When we starve ourselves, our bodies get used to not having food, so they have to sort of get their acts together when we start eating again. When I first started eating, I gained some weight because I was hungry all the time, and I was following directions by eating if I was hungry. Everyone kept telling my that my metabolism would evenually regulate itself, so to just keep trying. I did, and it was really hard some days, but my metabolism did finally regulate itself after a year to a year and a half. That time period was hard, but definitely worth it. Now I actually know when I'm hungry and when I'm full, and I feel much better overall. So, YES, your metabolism will get normal again, just give it time. It probably took awhile for it to get abnormal, so don't expect instant results. I had an ED for 13 years, and it took 12-16 months, but I know it varies from person to person. Keep trying, and good luck!

I forgot to mention, that since I have started eating well again, I am presently at my lowest weight ever. I would have NEVER believed that I would actually lose weight by eating more, but for me, it has proven to be true. I used to be in the "normal" range of weights (150 for 5'9), and now I am at the lower side of normal (133). Docs say it is from my metabolism regulating, and from me being able to tell when I'm hungry and when I'm full. That's something no one ever told me about eating, so thought I'd pass that along.

You were at 150 when trying to recover you mean? Or was that a start weight?
