I hope this doesn't get transferred to the new eating board because I spend most of my time reading and sometimes posting here and feel I "know" many of you.
I see a psychiatrist for therapy & med management once every 3 weeks. I take Celexa & Lamictal. One of my (many:)) issues is "disordered eating behavior." A very poor diet indeed. Mostly sugar eaten non-stop throughout the day. No regular meals. Technically I am only a small amount overweight butI have had elevated blood sugar consistently over the past 18 months and was sent to a registered dietician to deal with this and to "normalize my eating behaviors".
So...the dietician was very nice. Good info, & I've been trying to follow her advice. More protein, healthy carbs., etc. Nothing too drastic though. I have not been hungry but I just feel totally slow and depressed. I thought I would feel better with "stabilized" blood sugar. This is so discouraging. I feel I am in slow motion & that my depression has worsened.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Thank you!
Kim

how long have you been doing the higher protein/less sugar diet? i found that when i went on the adkins diet (just about all protein and no sugar or carbs) i was very slow and depressed for about two weeks, until my body adjusted to the new diet and i felt more energetic then. any change in diet will alter the way you feel for a while. i don't suggest an all protien diet like adkins b/c the brain does need sugar and the body produces toxins if all it has to burn is protein (Cell Bio 101). but an all sugar diet can't be healthy either. i would suggest sticking to the nutritionist's suggestions for at least a month before deciding what to do. good luck!

As a diabetic I can tell you it takes MANY weeks even months to notice the effects of a change like this..you will feel better please do not give up. My endo told me once even with a few days running high it will take weeks to be well again. NO NOT eat any real sugar or white flour ...you'll be fine.

Dear Fallen...Thank you for your response. I'm new to this blood sugar stuff so I'm wondering if you would be kind enough to clarify your statement that...
"My endo told me once even with a few days running high it will take weeks to be well again."
Again thanks!

Dear Smokey,
Thank you for your response. I've only been doing the new & improved diet for about a week so I will hang in there!

what symbol you all use to respond to a specific poster. Is it the parenthesis? I've tried the greater than sign...
Sorry to look like a dork!

Hey Kim my endocrinologist (a specialist in the glands (like pancreas and thyroid and ovaries and so many of them like para-thyroid and adrenal glands and on hormones) he said when one's blood sugars go up or down or are off even for say 2 or so days it will take weeks WEEKS of good blood sugars to feel ANY difference. I was also gonna toss in last time you are also going through odd as it sounds like a sugar and refined flour withdrawal so that would also add up to why so down. ALSO as you said your blood sugars were off THAT WILL toss you...I read my blood sugars MANY times a day and nobodys stays the same or even close so as you are still new to the diet and all...it will take time to FEEL the good effects of a healthy life style..I can recommend a good book if you want its very brainy but may explain
