neurontin, trileptal , lamictal ? re:kids-Dr Bob??

Hi-new here.. My 8 yo son has been taking Neurontin for mood stabilization, dosage now up to 1800 mg a day, spread out over 3 doses per day. He also takes 25 mg Seroquel at bedtime. The Neur. now seems to have lost its efficacy, although i question if it really worked much at all as a stand alone mood stabilizer... Our doc prescribed 75 mg Tripleptal as an add on instead of the seroquel at bedtime, and if he tolerates it for 3 nights, we will add a morning dose as well. I am nervous that the tripleptal will make him dopey and fuzzy in the morning. Is it a med that stops doing that after your body gets used to the start up effects?
Also, although a bp child expert, Dr. Demetri Papolos touts Lamictal as the stabilizer of the future, my pdoc wont touch it b/c of scary side effect? Can you address these questions? Thank yo so much!

Sometimes "experts" are more comfortable with new medications, or new uses for medications...

Dr Bob, and/or others?
In regards to Trileptal and Neurontin, what do you think of those meds either together or stand alone?
