I know, I know: "All you ever do is push orthomolecular on people! Its not 1967!" Seriously, though: its worked *so* well for me!
Here's my line up: 10 grams time-release C (5AM+5PM), B-100 time release, 400 micrograms selenium, 30mgs zinc (optizinc), 1 soy isoflavones cap from Life Extension (50ish mgs soy isoflavones), 10mgs Astaxanthin, 120mgs tocotrienols (Tocomin SupraBio), 75,000 IU natural form beta carotene+mixed carotenoids, 4 grams taurine, 4 grams niacinamide (2 doses of 2 grams each), 1 gram green tea extract (500 AM+500 PM).
That's my line up. If you do orthomolecular, you and/or your doc can put together something that works for you. The core, old school program is C, B complex, zinc, selenium, and E, plus whatever else you need/want.

Thanks for sharing this! Could you tell me a little about how you came to the individual doses? Did you start low and basically titrate up to whatever you could tolerate? How does the taurine help you? What form of vitamin C do you take, is it a powder that you can mix? I wouldn't want to have to swallow 10 big vitamin C every day! thanks

hey! taurine helps calm me down. Also supposed to help with hair growth. The dose came from a McLean study that used 4 grams w/ risperidone for psychosis.
10grams vitamin c is a result of my ocd. My #300 time release vitamin C tabs last exactly 30 days when I take 10 daily. Also, Linus Pauling was all about the C, so I kind of followed his lead. I think he was on 8grams/day as a result of his research. Since I have to take meds and I smoke, I figured...go on up to 10.
Natural form beta carotene is great for skin, and I have skin problems. Also helps the immune system.
Orthomolecular is awesome because you can customize it! I mean, try to be safe, but you have room to play. For instance: I had hair loss. Instead of Propecia, I take tocotrienols (the dose is based on a small study), taurine, green tea extract, zinc, and soy isoflavones. My hair looks awesome!
My skin looks better, my hair is thick and glossy, I can get away with taking abilify+neurontin PRN, and my stress levels are way down. I sleep better, my anxiety+agitation levels are under control...yes! All I need now is some slim-fast.
I'm not an MD or expert...I'm just so happy with Orthomolecular. I especially like the DIY nature of it, although you can work w/ a doc, too.

Nice thread! I'm all about orthomolecular medicine. I think it works great when combined with your daily medication. I can't take too much taurine, though. I take it PRN for situational anxiety, i.e. social occasions, doctor visits, etc. It takes the edge off a bit. Not as good as Ativan, but it helps a lot when I need it.
