This study found that carnosine reduces glutamate excitotoxicity. Ketamine also reduces glutamate excitotoxicity.

This clinical trial, which doesn't look like it's been published yet, used carnosine to treat bipolar disorder.

But first we need to know if there is glutamate toxicity. There is a blood spot test that can do that, and show the status of the other amino acids at the same time. That test helps take the guesswork out of it and paints a much clearer picture of what's going on.

Are these tests reflective of what is happening on the other side of the blood-brain-barrier?
