Hi
Has anyone had success with Valerian root for sleep?
I wonder if I can wean myself off valium 2 mg at night, and take valerian root instead.Bob12

Didn't do a thing for me, but it may work for you. I've had better success with magnesium citrate. If you haven't already, trying doing a search of the archives to come up with more ideas as the alt board does not always get a lot of traffic.

A recent study found Valerian to be ineffective for sleep.
"Valerian is used for insomnia and other disorders as an alternative to benzodiazepine drugs. A sedative for nervous tension, hysteria, excitability, stress and intestinal colic or cramps.[6][7][8][9] However most of these research studies have shown it to be ineffective in this use. A recent article states, "Most studies found no significant differences between valerian and placebo either in healthy individuals or in persons with general sleep disturbance or insomnia."
