i'm desperate to stay off meds (my doctor is pushing an anafranil/risperdal combo which sounds like cognitive suicide), and am looking at alternative treatments as a sort of last-ditch adjunct to CBT. just wondering if anyone has used/is still using inositol successfully to treat OCD? at high doses (10-18g) does it carry SSRI-like side effects of fogginess, etc.?

Ionistol is kind hit or miss. But then, everything else is too, right? Meds, herbs, everything, all experimental.
It is certainly worth a try. I would not count on it all by itself however. Natural things work better in synergy. Consider combining it with 5htp and/or magnesium and/or glycine and/or taurine. Possibly some herbs as well, such as Lemon Balm, Passionflower, Valerian. If some pep is needed, add Siberian Ginseng, preferably the tincture made by HerbPharm, tons more effective than capsules. Cordyceps for energy is good too.
I think any treatment needs to be a well rounded comprehensive approach. Meds are not that. Inositol is not that.

thanks. at least inositol has the advantage of double-bind OCD studies conducted in its favor, i guess. i realise it may not be efficient used alone, but i need help finding an anti-obsessional agent, so figured it was worth a shot. NAC helps obsessions partly. magnesium taurate and niacinamide help anxiety. SAM-e helps mood. so used in conjunction with those, hopefully it'll be of some use.

I have done over a 3 month trial with Inositol with zero effect at 12g doses this was four years ago and I tried two different sources of Inositol and used pharmaceutical grade powder. The last Israeli trial on Inositol was in 2001 I believe.

I think the answer lies in this sentence though :
The total number of studies inositol for depression is four or five covering only 141-166 patients. It's simply too early to draw any conclusions. However, since it is relatively inexpensive with few side-effects, it appears acceptable as an add-on strategy.
The studies are minimal to say the least, I have no reason to suspect that Inositol is effective in treating anxiety or OCD and I've done a trial on my self which proved to me that Inositol is about as useful as sugar in treating OCD and anxiety.

Yess there was a big study regarding its effectiness at ocd,problem......amount used was 12 grams a day!
This nutrient is not cheap,and that dose is absurd,also id recomend anyone planning to try this method to search for user reviews on it to see if anyone actualy had a benifit,aside from relying on just the study.
I tried it,and all i got was an empty wallet.
