I've only recently discovered the anecdotal link between melatonin and seratonin. Studies and feedback look promising but I could have sworn I remember reading a few years back about a potential side effect of using a melatonin supplement - namely that using it regularly will cause your body to produce less. That lowered level production will become a permanent condition and irreversible, requiring melatonin supplements forever.
Any truth to this or am I off base?

I don't know, I have read the opposite. That is, all hormones have a feedback loop that will shut down production if hormone replacement is given but that melatonin is the exception to the rule.
This is the end of the thread.
