Has anyone had any experience with or data regarding fish oil for social anxiety disorder/social phobia?
There seems to be plenty of info on fish oils and depression and ADHD, but little on anxiety disorders.
If so could you please also mention the EPA/DHA ratios involved? Thanks...Peace...Saturn.

> There seems to be plenty of info on fish oils and depression and ADHD, but little on anxiety disorders.Full disclosure: I've no general anxiety/panic problems, including social anxiety.
That said, I've found fish oil to have a much stronger anti-anxiety affect than Xanax or Valium. Hell, I would even say that the fish oil was more enjoyable than any benzo I've had, even at higher doses.
At the highish doses of Cod Liver oil I've been able to take recreational naps without waiting for the dextroamphetamine I'm on for ADHD to wear off. That said, the Cod Liver oil doesn't make me sleepy, just relaxed. It's hard to describe.
I've not been able to completely verify this, but taking a B-100 complex augmnts the Cod Liver oil, though the B-100 doesn't do anything for me by itself.
Unlike some other nutritional-type supplements I feel the relaxation even though I've been using it daily for a month. I usually take it in the afternoon, and if I'm tired because I didn't get enough sleep I'll usually wait until later in the evening- it doesn't make me sleepy or sedated if I've had enough rest, but it will make me sleepier if I'm already tired or sleepy.

I ran into this on accident, but when I take 3-6 teaspoons of Cod Liver Oil (the bottle says to take one) I get this effect. I have not noticed it with the non-cod liver Fish Oil gelcaps I have, but I've not taken what would be an equivalent dose (6-12), though I should test it out- with these higher doses (and it being summer) the high doses of Vit A and D you get by taking that much Cod Liver Oil might not be good.
Unfortunately, the Cod Liver Oil I have doesn't list the amounts or ratio of EPA/DHA it contains, only the content of Vit A and D is listed. The ineffective (for anxiety; thus far) Fish Oil gelcaps I have contain 2g of Fish Oil concentrate, 360mg of EPA and 240mg of DHA.
The best part about taking the liquid oil is that it hits pretty quick. I've never measured the amount of time I feel the anti-anxiety effect, but it's at least 2 hours, maybe 2-4.

i have social phobia, and can only tolerate low doses of fish oil before it ruins my sleep at recommended daily doses.
i can take 180/120 pills every other day, or better yet find a smaller pill, like Enzymatic Therapy Eskimo.
