Q 10 and blood coagulation

Posted by nellie7 on March 21, 2007, at 12:26:53

Hi,

I would like to give my Mom some Q 10 to prevent side effects of statins. She also takes aspirin. Does Q 10 have an effect on blood coagulation? Does it have a thinning effect?

TIA,
Nellie.

It has a modest anti-aggregation effect. It however works by a different mechanism than does aspirin, so the two effects are additive. CoQ10 has shown impressive synergistic effects alongside statin drugs, and a major study showed no novel adverse effects from the combination. Make sure her doctor knows about the added substance.

Thank you, Larry

Her doctor says she is not familiar with the effect of Q 10 or the benefits of it, but I have heard enough to assume she should take it.

Best wishes,
Nellie.
