I have taken many anti-depressants over my life and they have all had serious side effects or just didn't work very well.
Over the summer I started taking Sam-e supplements ( 800 mg/day) and immediately felt better than I did on any other AD and really had very few side effects, other than occasionally feeling like I drank too much caffeine. I really thought my problems were over... unfortunately about 2 months after I started taking it , it basically quit working! I would try taking a higher and higher dose , but it did nothing to lift my spirits and just made me more jittery.
Does anyone know if there is another supplement or something that I can add to the mix to make it start working again? Like I said I really liked it and wish that it would still work .
* also, I did take a B-vitamin supplemt regularly while taking it, so I don't think that was the problem.
Thank y'all !

>Don't know for sure Jim. I've only ever tried one pkt of SameE ..but it was definitely the best AD I've ever tried by a long way for me.. and no side effects, except feeling better ;)
tapered off so packet probably lasted me a couple of months too :)Before I tried the SamE though I'd been taking some powder mix which would have built up my sulfates level .. a MSM, Chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine mix . This one http://www.epharmacy.com.au/product.asp?id=44244&pname=Wagner+MSM+Joint+Formula+with+MSM%2C+Glucosamine+%26+Chondroitin+250g
(only I bought it at Souls)Maybe something like that would build up your sulfate levels and make it more effective. Comes fairly cheap(AUD $22 approx, and lasted me a year) and probably worth a go?
I'm not certain if taking that mix for a month or two b4hand was why SamE was sooo effective with me or not?Jan

I had the same experience with SAM-e after two months. It was quite a bummer since when it had good effect I also felt more physical energy.
I can't remember where I read it, or even if it was on this board or somewhere else, but the suggestion was to take LESS SAM-e once it starts to poop out. I didn't try that, I doubt if most people would as it seems counter intuitive.
Have you ever tried TMG? There is a thread in the archives about SAM-e and TMG. In my limited understanding and to my recollection, Larry said something about a homeostasis mechanism for SAM-e that may kick in because in supplementing it we're providing something that should be provided by the pathway that creates it. Iow, we're intervening unnaturally, and the body tries to compensate. I believe he said something like, TMG is further UP the pathway and not subject to that mechanism, as it would be self-correcting whether TMG results in SAM-e or not.
I don't know if that makes any sense, but that was the gist of what I remembered which seemed to explain why SAM-e poops out but TMG may not.
I was taking TMG and don't remember why I stopped. Maybe I will try it again.
You might also try taking magnesium, if you aren't already. Magnesium is a great "potentiator" in my experience. Tyrosine didn't work at all like it was supposed to for me until I started taking it with magnesium, for instance.
