I was on Effexor XR for six months, and took my last dose six days ago when I was switched to Celexa. When I was on Effexor, I began experimenting with amino acids, particularly L-Tyrosine and L-Glutamine, for a period of two weeks. I began with 500 mg of L-Tyrosine three times a day, reduced to 500 mg twice a day and then down to 500 mg once a day during the two-week period. The first few days on the L-Tyrosine, I felt pretty good (more energy, etc.). However, I stopped because, over the two-week period, in spite of reduced doses, I became so wired and anxious, the effects of which were intensified when I had a smoke (really bad habit which I trying to eliminate, but have not yet succeeded). I also take vitamins (100 mg of B-Complex twice a day and Omega 3, 6, 9 and recently added 250 mg of magnesium twice a day). Does anyone know if over-supplementation with L-Tyrosine can cause any adverse effects? When stopping supplementation, can it perpetuate depressive symptoms? Are there any long-term side effects associated with supplementation? Finally, does anyone know if DL-phenylalanine is more stimulating than L-Tyrosine? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
This is the end of the thread.
