Lar,
"could you please add the URL to such posts"
Many (most) of my posts like that don't have URL's. What I often do is that whenever I see some info on the net that I want to save...or whenever someone else posts info that I want to save..I just copy and paste the info that I want and e-mail it to myself...then I save it in my stored e-mail....but I guess that 'erases' the URL address (?) I retrieved that tryptophan info from my stored e-mail file. (Hope that makes sense).

I have a folder-tree that is sometimes five or six "deep"....e.g. main folder nutrition....secondary folder...supps....tertiary folder....minerals.....quaternary folder....zinc....pentarnary (?) folder....interactions
It does get messy if you just save as favourites....moreover, you may want to rename the URL while saving it....for clarity later on.
When you select Favourites...Add....you can edit the name, then add it to whatever folder you want it in....but you need to have the folder in existence ahead of time...so make a bunch of folders, then move stuff around to get caught up. I think URLs in favourites is best, but you do run the risk of a link going bad.

How does that saying go? Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow? :-)
Besides, I'm busy today.I have a day fully booked with feeling depressed, interspersed with a dash of negative ruminating and a fair bit of feeling sorry for myself too! LOL
Joking aside, I do have a folder for all my alternative med stuff/vit/mineral etc but its rather poorly named "odds nsods" (its a looong story. I really should (and will) get around to sortiung it out as there is some pretty good stuff in there if only I could find it.
I do enjoy reading your heartfelt exchanges with both kelly and Ron.....as Ron said tonight, you come across so articulte and switched on that its often easy to forget you are here for support as well as to give support. I cant do much but I'll raise a glass of Kronenburg 1664 to you sir and say, "hic....heres to you larry!".
Take care

Hey everyone, well Ive came off the wellbutrin and am still taking the tryptophan. I think the wellbutrin did intensify the effect of the tryptophan but I also felt more shaky.
Im only taking 1 gram of tryptophan per day 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night. It does help some with my social anxiety and ocd, but I still feel i need something else. I still feel very physicall tense and a little shaky.
Ive tried taking 2 mg of trypophan/ day but notice that i felt dizzy and had a headache. I also tried 100mg rhodiola with the tryptophan yesturday and noticed an increase in my concentration and mood.
Im still waiting for the makakea kava to come in from hawaii- which is supposed to be like day and night, compared to the regular kava. Anyways, let me know what you think. later!

Thanks!

Hey Macapac, I dont think so, i think its because im no longer taking the wellbutrin which i think intensified the effect. But i could not stand the side effects of agitation, dizziness and shakiness. are u taking tryptophan now?

Larry...others: regarding tryptophan...
Well, there is no doubt that there is an effect after taking my moderate (5oomg, or so) dosage. Upon waking, I generally have a cup of coffee or two, and then put about 500mg into some OJ and swig it down. I feel perked up from the caffein and, inside of about 45 minutes, my mood just feels enhanced to a great degree. I take a good multi three times a day and assume my B's are up to snuff for conversion purposes. I had tried a larger amount (about triple my present dose) and found it sedating and actually uncomfortable. I did not repeat that dosage so I don't know how reliable my response was. I repeat the 500mg. a second time later in the day well after eating lunch (or anything that might contain other amino's). My sleep seems to be better and my mood is just...changed for the better. I will let y'all know how things progress over time. Thanks,Lar, for the trypto. source and your informative posts. Maybe I finally got lucky!

I've been using the 'Ultra-pure' from the GP site. The price is right and i've got enough here to last for quite a good long while.

Just a question here, but why aren't you just using the 5-htp? I started using the 5-htp and the potency works much more directly than the tryptophan for me.

Quite simply, I had tried 5-HTP on more than one occassion, and found it unhelpful to any degree. After revisiting this board after a long absence, I read a thread that spoke of tryptophan (and, I believe, of its superiority, in some cases, to 5-HTP). I decided to try it and so far am happy with its results.
If you do some research on the earlier posts, or perhaps just ask Larry Hoover, you might find an answer to your question that delves more into the science of it rather than just the personal experience I had.
Glad the 5-HTP is working for you either way.

You can end up with an overload of serotonin in your blood with 5-HTP and thats bad for the heart and arteries. Its especially likely if you take vitamin B6 too.

Hey Matt...
Just curious if you've already tried a quality theanine product. The one I purchased months ago from VRP is certainly effective, and even my wife, who is frequently stressed from work, swears by the stuff. I use it 4-5 times a week during the day. It definitely has a calming effect for me.

Hey Jotho, I have not tried theanine but have heard that it gives a total "mind centering" calming effect for some people- but its pretty expensive. I was thinking about getting somefrom a local nutrition store but dont know if it is good quality. Do u have any recommendations? thanks

Hi...
Many of the supplements I buy are from VRP (Vitamin Research Products) but I have found a site that sells the VRP vitamins at a 10% discount. Go to this site and use their product search. I believe 180 capsules of theanine (100mg) go for $19.95. The VRP stuff is known for it's quality...you can ask around.Go here to buy theanine at a discount: http://www.1to1vitamins.com/index.html
VRP's actual site (they've got an extensive product line) is www.vrp.com

Hey jotho, thanks for the info. Did you ever try picamilon? its gaba bonded to niacin at the molecular level which makes it capable of reaching the brain. Its supposed to have the same mind centering effects as picamilon; even better for some people.
As for the theanine, im still not sure whether i want to buy it. I drink a lot of green tea, and it really doesnt seem to help me out. Do you know if it is basically the same thing? thanks

> As for the theanine, im still not sure whether i want to buy it. I drink a lot of green tea, and it really doesnt seem to help me out. Do you know if it is basically the same thing? thanksTheanine is a substance isolated from the tea (however, i'm not sure if commercial Theanine is processed this way...via the tea) and, in addition to the Theanine, there are antioxidants and other beneficials in tea. However, some people don't take well to an abundance of tea...I get nauseous after two cups. Also, I don't know how much tea you would have to drink to obtain the equal amount of Theanine found, in say, a 100mg. capsule, so that might be a factor. My understanding is that it is very safe, and at least with the capsules I described to you, taking two rather than one would not be something to worry about.
I haven't tried Picamilon, though I have read good things about it. I don't think it is cheaper than the Theanine, but if it works better than the Theanine...and is affordable to you...great. Had the Tryptophan, and occassional use of Theanine, not worked as well for me I'm sure Picamilon would be one of the next on my list to try.
Good Luck.

Thanks Matt. The site I gave you in a prior post (1to1vitamins) sells 180 capsules X 100mg. for $19.95 so it is cheaper than Herbalglobal's prices, and I also trust VRP vitamin and supplement products completely. Appreciate the effort, though.

Please modify the subject heading when your discussion dramatically shift from the original.
Two reasons:
1. It's clear what you're talking about.
2. If you ever want to find this thread again, say weeks or months from now, it is very much simpler. Thanks,
