Head Injury Aftereffects

Posted by taylor18 on November 30, 2003, at 5:19:01

When I was 11 or 12 I suffered a blow to my left forehead. I was rollerblading, jumped off a ramp, hit a skateboarder in midair, my helmet slid past my forehead in midair or near crash, and I landed on the left part of my forehead.

This caused mild unconsciousness directly afterward. I slowly came to over the next 30 minutes or so. I faintly recall feeling sick, weak, and/or odd that day and night.

I'm wondering if this could have caused damage to my frontal lobes/prefrontal cortex, during the period before the onset of puberty, thus resulting in developmental structural abnormality.

If that were the case, what would the advised treatments be?

I've read that octacosanol is good for brain injury. Apparently it repairs the protective nerve covering.
I 'm going to try it, as I banged the back of my head and knocked myself out a few times when I used to go on drinking binges.

A neurologist would be the best person to help you with any problems related to head injury. A neurologist can order diagnostic imaging, such as CAT scans, MRI scans, and other tests such as EEG to determine whether there has been long term damage to your brain.
