Novel treatment for manic aspect of Bipolar?

Posted by taylor18 on October 22, 2003, at 6:10:01

More than 1 person who is treating bipolar naturally has used a combination of acetyl l-carnitine with phosphatidylcholine. The PC increases acetylcholine, and the carnitine helps it acheive this goal more efficiently. I've heard it has "lithium-like effect" with no side effects.

High levels of acteycholine are associated with depression and low levels with mania. This would switch you from the left forebrain to the right forebrain and stop mania but you could get depressed or not.The right amygdala may play a role in mania as it controls dopamine and the left forebrain.Injury to the right brain causes mania and injury to the left brain causes depression.I belive the left amygdala and acteycholine control depression .Emotions are generated in the limbic sys. and you feel them in your forebrain.mania is an emotion generated by dopamine.Dopamine and acteycholine control your moods.Choline has been testyed at Harvard MEd and it stops mania.
