Some forms of mental illness like panic,ocd and manic depression are the result of overactive brain cells that fire and fire and will not stop fireing once they recive a signal to fire.Fish oil and inositol stop kindling which is related to calcium disregulation.Calcium sets off many brain enzymes such as PKC which controls brain chemical release.Serotnin also inhibts brain cell fireing as does gaba.But the problem is inside the brain cell in the second messenger system and may be the result of a defective enzyme called the inositol phosphate enzyme which causes calcium disregulation by effecting IP3 .Inositol is the precursor to the second messengers.Calcium even controls gene expression.Gaba just keeps a brain cell from fireing wildly.
