:does dr-bob read our posts patty??
:dr-bob is the news station, that's how your posts get revealed to the world
:why would dr-bob do this??
:in the beginning was the word, and word was bob, and on the 7th day psychobabble was created

:patty inst that illegal?
:do you want your posts private or on a talk show?
:don't know

making it just that little bit easier for even more people to identify you? want to offer a month, as well? maybe the board? a link to the particular post?
i thought you were all about trying to get more publicity / people following your posts...

ok im gonna serious, i've been writing things like a 10 year old, there are facebook and tweet buttons on the bottom of the screen, and anyone can press those, and it tweets, there's twitter on dr-bob that posts are posts and the screen name, and a short statement of the post on the title of it.....dr-bob posts our post on twitter and probaly some discreet babbler, or googler reading the posts...
look im not trying to be stupid, and trying to blow this out of preportion, the main im just trying to say is these can/are tweeted, and anyone can read our posts, the goveremnt, it's agencies, the world, nothing is secure or encryped of these posts, it's directly open
anyways, that's all, i've knew this for a while, and then saw twitter with our screen names....
so thats all, don't want to shout and make a big deal about this because this has been this way since 1998 when this site was madethanks for responding

Matt,
Why don't you turn off your FB and Twitter buttons? It's an option.
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#sharetweet
Just click "customize settings" and log in and turn them off, like Babbblemail, like auto-asterisking, etc. This at least makes it less convenient for anyone to send your posts to social media with a couple clicks. Dr. Bob, I think, won't send any there IF you've opted out.
Of course, this does nothing to keep anyone from finding them with Google if they are determined and know what they are looking for....but it's something.

I agree long time ago Dr Bob showed and told us how to eliminate the tweet option. But I still have babblemail on? Phillipa

They are separate choices. In the same area - options.

> Matt,
> Why don't you turn off your FB and Twitter buttons? It's an option.
a while ago he was asking how he could publicise himself / increase the number of people who read his posts / followed him.
turning off those functions would be counter-productive towards that end.
this topic, though, (that of posts being twittered), has generated quite a number of posts from people in the past...
i would guess it is more about that?

In reply to Re: someone's been tweeting our posts!, posted by alexandra_k on June 6, 2014, at 1:15:21
i did say that, but what i mean is it's on google search feeds when my name is typed in, the post i wrote back then was scary to some people....thats why i wanted to get it removed....you see, and yes some of my posts today i would like make more known, but some are not so sure to want to share
like i said, the post are tweeted with a small statement of the post and the link to psychobabble toi that post....
there's not really much more to that....so there's two things i tried to make known: the posts are tweeted on twitter, and my previous messages from 9 years ago are on google search feeds, and i am trying to get it removed....but obviously thats gonna be difficult because google cannot remove them, and other search engines have similar results....
not much more than that.....ok?

i have babblemail off....i stopped using it a long time ago....facebook twitter button have been there for long time, and just realized how it can be shared.....really only dr-bob can stop them from being tweeted, and if it can be taken down.....just i realized this so late, it's been available on search engines since 1998, scary....the key words

but what im trying to say is not to get attention, it's just something i've finally realized, yes i would like some of my posts to be public and people could read them, but that's like being on talk show, or the movie the matrix where they track neo on where he's been on computer hacking, this case with me is hundreds of posts i've written and some of them i have to get off the net, some are b*llsh*t, some of them are not accurate and just ranting
that's all....

i'm sorry - i didn't mean to give you a hard time. i understand about how you want SOME of your posts to be more widely read... but not others. i've posted stuff that i don't want widely read. can think of some people who i'd really rather not read them...
google does throw things up sometimes, huh. i'm surprised when i google something and find links to my babble posts. it is funny (strange) how ... idiosyncracies of phrase. like how sometimes you find some key words... slightly different from ones you'd been using... opening up vast tracts of new literature... all on the same thing.
i guess i just figure that the liklihood of a person finding your post that way is low. then the liklihood that they have actually met you or know of you in person: even lower. then the liklihood that they put the two of those together: lower still. not impossible, of course. then... even if they did put all that together... it was a time ago. and you've grown and developed since then.
anyway... sorry if i came across as attacking or... abrupt. or something. i do understand what it is like to wish taht parts... would just vanish. for always.

Well, the basic problem here, Matt, is that you used your real name. Never a good idea on a public internet forum. You can hardily blame Dr. Bob for this. it's an internet forum. Content comes up on google and other search engines. Google is how I found babble. The way to protect your anonymity is to not use your real name.
People can read my posts and so what? If they already know me well, they can figure out who I am based on content. but my friends don't read this website. If someone googles my name -- an employer or something -- they won't find my posts. My babble name has nothing to do with my real name.

i think that bob will delete your real name if you have posted it and wish to change your mind... it is more people's ability to put together this and that and the next thing...
babble people managed to track me down irl... to check that i was okay... they did have help from someone who i'd had off board phone conversations with... i think... but i actually think... they could have figured it out without that. just from stuff i'd posted. and that was back at a time when i was fairly paranoid about people putting things together... and i did try and be careful... but i'd also post during meltdown. and there was enough stuff to locate me as a distinctive individual. for anyone who... cared to, i guess.
i've come to see... that i'm not that important... most people don't care... maliciously... i mean. people aren't malicious, most of them. most people are empathy.. have empathy. wouldn't poke fun or whatever. sounds like rj has had a bit of a hard time... but it's come from the other way... his having told people irl about where he posts and what his posting name is... then changing the posting name but being unable to change something about the fundamental style...
which is... reassuring somehow? like you found yourself somehow? i don't know...
This is the end of the thread.
