About admin visibility...

Posted by Racer on June 1, 2007, at 12:15:17

Hi, all!

I know that a lot of people are concerned right now, especially after the recent hacking. It probably looks as though no one's minding the store, but that's not quite true. Dr Bob has been working on the code for this site, making it more secure, and improving some of the behind the scenes functioning. You won't see the changes, because they're just about function, not form, but the changes are there. So, even if it looks as though he's not here, he is. Just not so visible.

I'm having an off-board crunch right now, so haven't had time to spend much time reading and posting here. I do read every notification, though, every time I check my email. If you see a post that concerns you, or if you have a question about something, use the Notify Administrators button, or the "Contact Dr Bob and Deputies" form located at http://www.dr-bob.org/cgi-bin/pb/extras.pl#contact. I check email several times a day, and respond to everything I feel confident responding to. That means that there are some things I don't respond to, because I'm not sure of the answer.

Just for a little peek behind the scenes, when a notification comes in to the deputies, it's never ignored. If you don't see something done about it right away, it's often because we're discussing amongst ourselves what should best be done. That's the best thing about being a deputy, by the way. We do discuss issues as they come up, and I think we work together pretty darn well. But since the discussions take place via email, that process can take a while if the issue is complex or new to all of us. Also, if your babblemail is not turned on, only Dr Bob can email you. The rest of us have no access to your email address, so if we decide to take no action, we can't let you know why. So, if you don't have babblemail turned on, and you want a response from us, please include some sort of contact information.

I do know that people are quite concerned right now. It's got to be pretty scary when it looks as though no one is minding the store. I hope that this is a little reassuring, knowing that we're here. Again, off-board stuff gets in the way sometimes, but there are reliable ways to contact us, and I know that every single one of your notifications is read.

Also, since I think many of us right now are having crunches, if there's a post that concerns you, please do use the notification system. If something else concerns you, please use the contact form. If you really feel the need for a personal response, you can note that in your request, but I think that will take longer -- not because we're not reading, but because sometimes I don't know what exactly to say... (I won't try to speak for anyone else -- if I'm not sure what to say, I have a very bad habit of procrastinating. Bites my bottom, and I try to work on it, but there it is...)

Hope that helps put everyone's mind at ease! And I miss y'all, hope to get things back under control soon, so I can get back here to play again!

That's a nice post, Racer. I'm sure most people will feel reassured that all is well (or at least pretty well) after absorbing your thoughts.

Thanks.

Thanks Racer! It would be nice though if every couple of days Dr. Bob would just put up a brief note that he was working on things.

for posting this post.
It is helpful. But like others say, it would be nice if Bob hiumself could at least keep us babblers in the loop.
He DID post this:

>I'll try to keep you updated, and when the dust settles, we'll need to discuss the consequences of this. Thanks for your patience,

Bob

So is it that the dust has not yet settled?
Bob COULD post some basic info, out of respect for us. He could say, please don't ask me a bunch of questions and overwhelm me. I am just going to post informational posts at this time. Do not ask, at least expect any response to additional questions at this time.....
He just comes across as so emotionless, that he seems non human, and so I think for me, that elicits a response to see if he IS human, or some evil force or something. Sigh. Babble has such good people, but its a damn scarey place these days.....
Bob has all the power as he is the owner, but he don't seem to want to give us the time of day. Yeah, I feeling pretty dissed all right.
sh*t anyways.
Guess as usu I just flapping my gums and bob will do nothing.
sh*ts I say.
